Yes, absolutely. Look at the NFL and NBA. Dominated by guys who are tall, strong, and fast. If you don't match those requirements, you can be the most skilled player of all time and it won't matter, you aren't making the pros. On the other hand, if you are incredibly quick but aren't particularly skilled you can still succeed in the nba or nfl. In soccer the opposite is true. Some of the best players in the world are 5'8, 5'9 and average speed, but because they are so skilled they can get away with not having natural world class athleticism.
If you can name me five guys in the nba and nfl who are under 5'10 and not freakishly athletic (i.e. quickness, speed, agility, jumping ability) in some way and are still top 5 in the world at what they do, then i'll reconsider my position. But until then, no, basketball and football aren't based around skill as much as soccer is.
