today, sitting in AP physics, i had a revelation. we were doing some pertaining to a 70kg person under the normal force of gravity, 9.8 m/s/s. 70 x 9.8 happens to be 686. Is this the inspiration for the outerwear company 686? a 70kg snowboarder in freefall?

yeah but 70kg is like an average person. could have been what they though an average snowboarder would weigh.

Why would they randomly choose 70 kg as the average weight of a snowboarder? And why would they be thinking in terms of kilograms in the first place?

maybe it would be they weight of one of the founders? maybe they just chose one? and gee i don't know maybe because the entire world save the U.S. uses kg?

it's not that far-fetched. i'm sure there are tons of names that came from weirder, more arbitrary things. ON3P? line? why would they choose these names instead of bob's ski company?

I know everyone else uses kg, but it's an American brand if I'm not mistaken, and it's founders were born and raised American. They grew up with the U.S. Customary System.

It's pretty far fetched. Those are just random numbers from school. And I doubt people starting an outerwear brand are thinking about the speed at which the "average" person falls

yeah, what? (to chicken)

physics is measured in SI units. it is international, and uses kg, no matter where you go or which textbook you have. i have had 3 books in physics in the past 2 years and they all use kg. not even a mention of the imperial system

meh. the units you choose don't change the physics anyways. some of my physics textbooks don't use SI units.
