Going to be coming up from Pennsylvania for a couple weeks this winter and am worried about driving in the snow. I'll be staying maybe 20 minutes away from breck. How often do the roads in the area have snow on them and how are the roads going up to the resort? I'll pick up a set of snow tires but i'm worried that they will not be enough.
Good snow tires are better than 4 wheel drive vehicles without snow tires. Basically saying I would take a front wheel drive car with good snow tires over a 4 wheel drive car with all season standard tires. Take my advice, if you want, after all I only drive a shuttle for a living in the county 40 hours a week all around Breck....
How often is snow on the road though? and how quickly does it get plowed? Like lets say it snows 6 inches one day. How long will it take the resort to plow the roads going up to the resort and how quickly does the city plow everything else?
depends on the time of year. mid-winter when it's really cold it'll stay on the roads for a while until the sun eventually bakes it off (unless it snows again). during the spring time the snow will stick very easily to the roads when it snows heavy, but as soon as the some comes out it usually melts fast. The plow drivers in summit for the most part are awesome, even when I lived in the outskirts of Frisco it was always plowed by at least 6am, but more traffic'd areas will have it done much sooner (and will keep it that way if it's still snowing). Snow tires should be all you need, although if you get stuck on an uphill you may or may not have a bit of troubles. But in that case, just back down the hill, get some speed and try again.
I wouldn't worry about it too much, if you're not as confident go slower until you build that confidence up. Just be wary that a lot of CO drivers drive fast as hell when the roads are snow-packed.
man fuck those people, and then when they dont get out the left lane because they are some gaper idiot from texas. its just like jesus fuck learn how to drive.
Thanks for the help guys. I'll deff make sure if i don't feel safe driving i'll just stay back. Another thing i was wondering is how often does it just snow around January / february. Like how often every week?
