One last comment on this healthcare thing.
in the early 90's, the Republicans, including many who are currently in congress today, totally were down with an individual mandate. Newt used to work for the foundation that spearheaded the idea, and Romney even got the idea for the Massachusetts plan from him. Now both are all super against it? Bush was for it, McCain was for it, even Nixon and Reagan even supported various healthcare mandates...
Basically, the Republicans were, if not majorly for it, definitely initiating the idea 20+ years ago. I feel like the only reason they are calling this the end times is because a Democrat is in the oval office and they either don't want him to succeed, or want to take all the credit themselves.
the amount of flip-flopping that has happened on both sides of the coin on this issue over the last 23 or so years is just a bunch of political posturing to the highest degree... and now it's cumulated in this ridiculous political showdown that has in effect shut down the government (or 'slimmed' it down, as Fox News is trying to portray it...)
...Hilarious seeing those idiot pundits say that it hasn't effected them at all, and the sky didn't fall. Well no shit! you don't work for the government, aren't being furloughed, and you have fuckers powdering your face every day to make it look like you just got back from a lifetime in fucking Fiji. Life's just grand for your pompous asses.
