I just watched it and I agree that it was the "planet earth" of skiing but it seemed to lack the skiing part. I mean it was like 20 minutes tops of skiing out of a fucking 122 minute film. Cinematography was exceptional though...
Well pretty much every movie has a "world premeire" that is early sept and then they put out dvd/itunes but still have tours go through november, know what im sayin?
holy shit that was epic, the production was better than anything ski film i have ever seen. i disagree about the lack of skiing, there was plenty i thought, loved the story and the reoccurring themes through the whole film. 10/10 for sure.
Best movie I have seen this year. Granted I have only seen Into the Mind and Partly Cloudy, I'm tired of the cookie cutter ski porn movies. However Partly Cloudy was rather exceptional in regards to being ski porn. Into the Mind offers a very fresh take on ski movies that I really dug. It is a cinematic piece of art not just a bunch of cool skiing. It has a take home message which gives it even more depth. Anything that presents any kind of interesting argument or take on life is superior to that which does not. Into the Mind may be the best ski movie I've ever seen. I heard that the Sweetgrass film Valhalla is pretty good though so I'll have to check it out.
It was trippy, beautiful filming and the story line was awesome. It worked without a spoken story. Go see it if you like skiing and birds.Seriously, there's a lot of birds in it.
This is just my take on that part. Disclaimer the spinny thing might actually have some significance in that culture that I'm not specifically aware of; however, it seems as if as he spins the thing it represents life and how it moves on and on just as nature, which seems to parallel human life with shots of waves and mountains being spun together. In the "Death" chapter the old man quits spinning the device indicating the end of one life and as he is reborn later he begins to spin it again to signify his rebirth.
