So my friend wants some new skis, He is about 5'10" 170 and a pretty good, traditional all mountain skier. We ski in Montana so I am thinking maybe 100ish underfoot with some tip rocker and a little tail rocker. He skis all mountain and wants something that is fat enough to handle some pow but still maneuverable enough to do moguls. durability is also super important in Montana where snow is minimal. I thought the atomic theory's might do him justice but i'm just looking for some more opinions.
it's pretty difficult to get a 100 underfoot ski that performs in moguls... however soul riders are good. not to flex so you get trouble in moguls and not to stiff for park days. so i suggest soul riders or halo 2
Go for the atomic alibi or the salomon q98. Those skis can both rail a turn but are nimble enough to be skied through anything. The alibi will be a but better in the park if that matters.
The armada tst is the only ski that is a 100 underfoot and I would describe as fun in bumps that I have ever skied. It rails turns on hard pack, and skis pow well due to the large tip rocker And poppyness. It is not the greatest chop ski, but then what makes it not good in chop is what makes it so playful and lively. Get the 183 at his weight, although if he is an aggressive skier, mounting the 192 about -3.5 from true center should be seriously looked at.
