Into the mind

Watchin into the mind right now and it's epic. So far on par or better than all I can. Only about 20 minutes in and already the best film iv seen this year. It will be interesting to see how it compares to Valhalla. Anybody else seen it? Thoughts?

I only watched the first 20 mins because i couldnt blast my surround sound any later but i dunno it seems pretty dam creative to me and the cinematography, audio and editing is some of the best i ever seen. Im sure i will enjoy it. Open your mind to new things. We dont need rap,thuggin and urban ALL the time

You guys who cant accept that some people are not going to like this movie just dont get it. Maybe you are the ones who are shallow. And please dont give me some "Why dont you go watch partly cloudy again" bullshit because it wasnt the lack of urban and bangers in this movie that made me not like it.

different strokes dude...some people want nothing but "hit after hit" ski porn while others want more of a creative visual experiance in what they spend their hard earned coin on.

personally, i was a huge fan of All.I.Can and I plan to watch Into The Mind tonight since I bought it on iTunes last night. after 15 years, films of the "hit after hit" park film variety don't do it for me anymore and that's alright. now i'm more of a Teton Gravity and Matchstick fan for the big lines and backcountry trips.

people have different tastes but doesn't make them shallow.

We can accept it, I know everyone is going to feel differently about different things. But, that doesn't necessarily mean I respect the opinion or the person for that matter, but yes to each their own. I'm writing off most people in this thread because you're all mostly park rat needle dicks but people like Billy hating on this movie really gets under my skin, but I'm done arguing in this thread.

If you don't respect me due to my opinion, I'm okay with that. I loved Into the Mind and I think is an incredible piece of art.

damn i thought that shit was wild.  all over the map - fun, crazy, interesting. not to mention the skiing was top notch.  definitely got the spins a couple times, but yo! that's how life works.

To be honest it wasn't that amazing. I could've gotten the same effect by sitting down and playing planet earth on one desktop screen and watching a real ski movie on the other and switching my head back and forth really quickly

Sure, it can be called art. Just because its art does not mean it is useful, or even enjoyable. Many people would probably call a car with square wheels 'art.' Does not mean anyone would want to drive it.

It was an over edited excuse to be special, different, and 'in-tune with the mountains'

All.I.Can worked. This sure as fuck did not.

Unless your $8 organic chi sipping artsy smug that gets off on shit being 'different' and edgy. Same type who drink $6 tall boys at indie rock shows and shop at American Apparel, and are allways talking about being held back by the man. Whoever the fuck that is.

this film was on the level of "Koyaanisqatsi." That being said, if you don't know what that is, you probably don't know a lot about film.

The movie made me feel what it is like to be a skier in every aspect of the sport. The worst interpretation was the overuse of sirens during the urban segment. Especially because I read an article about how the City of Calgary shutdown multiple streets for the shoot. There were only cops there to allow them to shred.

My favorite part was the Ski Mountaineering and decisions making that occurred. I really related to this and could sense the improper decisions as they occurred. That almost made me angry. Again... lots of feeling occurred watching the film. Which in turn means it was a good film.

Was it better than ALL.I.Can.? not to me, but it is definitely worth a watch. It was different than any other ski film I have ever seen.

When i go into art museums, im generally not really into it.
Its still art. Its still impressive.

Its incredible work. Its just not for me.

Kids on here are reviewing this from a ski porn perspective. You see the movie in some completely different light that most of these kids dont. Similar to the people who go to opera, or museums, or love sports. You gotta respect the mindset they are coming from. it doesnt make sense to get pissed or call people ignorant on the basis that their thoughts arent yours..

Its like that old lady who goes to the opera and thinks all the neighborhood kids are pieces of shit because they listen to alternative music.

I thought it was an awesome flick!
What kinda pissed me off was the blatant placement of the North Face athletes that really didn't fit in the film. Why were Wallisch and Benji Farrow in there? They definitely didn't fit the vibe of the film and were not relevant to what was happening. JP's street segment was nowhere as good as in All.ICan. Maybe a little too much CGI effects in places.

I did think the whole story line they wanted to go with made a little more sense than in All.I.Can though.

The skiing was great, time lapses were incredible and the whole overall vibe was good.

If the producers do read this thread, you can't always please everyone but if your work gets through to even a few people, you have succeeded as artists.

i gotta say after finishing the movie, the part with the snowboarder and CGI needed to go bad! it was so over the top CGI it felt like a corny SCI FI channel movie. Probably the worst part of any ski movie ever.

overall the movie was ok. Def some of the best cinematography i ever seen which i really liked watching.

but ill never say any ski movie was really a waste of 10 or so dollars, 1 beer at a bar costs me that much

This movie was sick!!! and the big mountain riding was insane.
Definitely over-edited, but truly a story, not ski porn the whole time.

I didn't expect my favorite part to be snowboarding and surfing, but damn there were a lot of good segments.

Best movie review I have seen on NS.

The cinematography was great. The skiing was subpar. The movie was way too long. If there was a plot put through the "chapters" it was not conveyed well. I think a SKI, and I repeat a SKI, video is measured in it's replay value. This movie has zero replay value. It was like a 90 minute cinematography reel.

At a premier at school now, I have a bit of anticipation but it might be misplaced. The reviews lowered my expectations at least. Still looking forward to the film, plus it's free!

Brilliant film, some crazy intense big mountain, loved the sound and also the urban seg with JP was sick. Didn't like Callum Pettits cheesy segment but the rest of his and everyone's was intense. A little less landscape and a little more riding would have been perfect. 9.1/10

Definitely was disappointed with Into Then Mind. I was no All I Can. Way more cinematography than skiing.

Also, after a sick segment like JP had in All I Can, this was the best they could come up with, with JP and TW together?!!! Really?!!! WTF?  All they showed me was a bunch of buildings with flash lights on them, a rail slide, and a couple of jumps.

And all those rushed chapters. What was that? I felt like they went through chapters so fast that I didn't get any meaning from them.

Not saying I didn't like it or it sucked, just saying I expected a lot more.

I gave it a week and watched it a second time.

Overall, I liked it the first time apart from some over-editing (half-pipe segment, bird segment) but the second time through I wasn't as focused/distracted by the studio work and was even more blown away by the skiing. Callum is a fucking boss, and easily deserved his "best male" IF3 award, hands down.

This movie is art, as has been said multiple times, and like all art, has its criticisms based on individual opinions. Some people just won't get it, others will be obsessed with it.

Summary:
All hail Callum Pettit.

Calling is a fucking nut. I watched the film last night and was blown away. Insane cinematography. Skiing was unreal. Holy fuck callum. Very impressive film. Loved the soundtrack and the segment with DCP

I just finished watching Into The Mind for the first time; there is way too much overreaction to the film here. A lot of you made it sound like it was literally 10 minutes of ski footage mixed mixed with 50 minutes of artsy bullshit.

I was very pleasantly surprised after going in with low expectations. Yes it's over-edited, a little too much non-ski footage and had that repeated camera tilting thing going on, but so what? There was enough good ski footage to entertain me, so it's a fine film.

just curious and would like to hear a filmer and editors opinion of the movie but what exactly did you like about it?

I am no cinematographer or editor and maybe could be generalized into the category of "go watch partly cloudy again" but I do feel that I have an open mind and a decent grasp of storytelling, aesthetics and the work that goes into a feature film.

For me this movie had great camera work and amazing visuals, a decent but somewhat cheesy storyline, and motion, video, and editing graphics that reach for the stars but fell extremely short. That last point honestly ruined the film for me. its like they tried to do too much and didnt know when to stop.

All I can was a masterpiece. They set out to make a good movie and that is what they did. with Into the Mind The set out to make an AMAZING MOVIE but didnt reach the mark so now it just feels like an embarrassment and a disappointment.

I did not enjoy Into the Mind at all. It felt unemotional and overproduced to me, and I personally didn't feel like it had any sort of artistic substance to it.

If I had to describe it in one word I'd call it sterile. Devoid of any sort of genuine emotion or interesting premise. And there wasn't enough skiing.

Thought the movie was pretty awesome. I love all ski movies though. People have said it before but it was very different from the "ski porn" feel of just banger after banger.

The ONLY thing I hated was that damn dude swinging that ball toy around. FUCK!! we have seen it enough.

so I figure I'll put my two cents in here. After hearing so many mixed reviews I went into the movie with an open mind today. I had a full belly, but not overly full. It was mid afternoon, so I wasn't sleepy and it was just after a walk so I wasn't overly energetic. I smoked some weed, but not too much to get burnt out midway through and had good lighting going on to maximize the HD.

I really did NOT like the video, like - at all. With what other on here are saying with the not enough skiing shots, chapters that - to me - seam absolutely meaningless and if anything just confuse me even more as to what they are actually trying to tell me in their 'story'. Showing shots that have nothing to do with anything (what was with that random shot of the ice climber, or the kayaker? The surfing?) I mean... if you are going to try and tell a story or show a point of view, a bit of narration isn't a bad thing. I didn't like what they were preaching with All.I.Can, but at least they succeeded in telling the story, with this video I was at a complete loss. The "death" chapter totally confused me... so much confusion with what they were actually going for. At the end I just had to ask myself "What's the point?".

The most exciting part of the video? When buddy spinning the thing randomly got up near the end - only to find out he went to sit on his roof.

Go back to art school, you aren't doing it right.
