Edelweiss, the rare and fabled alpine flower that is the national flower of Austria and was a status symbol among german paratroopers in ww2 is actually a foreign species that originates from mongolia where it actually grows in abundance on the high plains and is used as animal fodder...

Mongolia has the oldest National Park in the world. Lying just South of Ulan Bator the Bogd Khan National Park dates its origin to 1778.
