The Canyons?

This year will be my first time going to Utah, and my family is meeting my cousins family there. So I assumed we'd be going to Park City, and turns out (since they planned first), if we meet them then we're going to the Canyons. How is it? I know it's not PC, but how's the terrain park? Anything decently sized (40 ft jumps?)? I am worried that it'll be tiny (terrain park wise)

My buddy works/rides at the Canyons and he loved the park. They have really nice jumps from what I've heard too.

depends when you go, they always have a decent set up but it doesnt seem to get big until later on in the season

you'll be fine.  pc is only 5 minutes down the road if you get bored at canyons.

PCMR gets 3 Kings dialed in pretty early whereas Canyons seems to slowly build their park up over the season, but by New Years it should be pretty solid. Will probably depend on how much natural snow we get in November/December. But as the other guy said, you can catch a 10min bus ride on the free bus system from Canyons to PCMR. Also, food for thought, 3 Kings runs for night skiing too so that would be an option.

also as far as natural terrain goes the canyons is pretty sick compared to the other pc resorts. i recommend spending at least a day exploring the mountain outside the park because theres some pretty sick stuff you won't get in your neck of the woods. its a damn shame your not going to alta/bird though

Yeah, my cousins aren't really into skiing/ snowboarding too much, so they just picked a random place I think. I'm going to Key and Breck later this year and will be in the park pretty much the whole time, so a little change will be nice

Bring your rock skis.

I'd rather just sit in town and drink all day than ski that resort at that time of year.

I had a pass to Canyons one year, and it was awesome. Their park is just a lot of fun. Not incredibly difficult, but creative and fun stuff. Also, if you happen to luck out and get there in a big snow dump, you could spend all day skiing the trees of 9990.

I hear the thing to do is go out of the gate up there on 9990 with no gear or anything. Just rental skis and puffy jacket. Take a left, wide open pow.

yyyup. I mean if you like having to take a ton of lifts to get anywhere, then by all means go to canyons. To get off the mountain you'll have to:

A. Take the gondola down (with a big-ol' line of people)
B. Take Short Cut lift to get to Doc's to get down (also crowded)
or C. Take Willow Draw cat track out of the Super Condor gulley.

I mean the terrain there isn't bad by any means, but just getting around the resort sucks.

PCMR (to me at least) is just so much easier to navigate. No matter where you are on the mountain, you can take one lift and be able to ski down to the base.

Definitely some truth here. I had a PCMR pass last season and Canyons the year before. PC is wayyy easier to navigate and is just laid out better in general. Canyons can definitely be lifts... to get to cat tracks... to get to lifts... to get to cat tracks...

But with that said you can't argue Canyons has more and better terrain than PC. I don't really ski park much these days and as such I found myself kinda bored at PC by the end of the season. Jup is a shit show on a pow day and you can only hike the Peak, Scotts, and High West but so many times. Definitely some fun terrain that gets overlooked off of Pioneer, but that lift runs so slow it will drive you crazy after awhile.

People laugh, but Deer Valley is my favorite in Park City a lot of days. Not much in the way of huge cliffs if you're trying to make the cover of Powder, but the Chutes are fun when they get nice and wind-loaded and there are a ton of great tree runs. Plus most of the skiers there are just lapping the groomers so the good stuff isn't tracked out anywhere near as quickly.

DV is hands down the best resort in PC, if you exclude park :( ive been skiing DV for 15 years and once you know where to go... no one else goes there because they are just not that type of skier at DV.

Canyons only had a baby park til mid january last year. Ride 9990 and do some real skiing. Or find Canis Lupus and go ape shit. There park is fun but nothing compared to PC, last year at least. The side of the mountain they do put the big park on is really exposed and gets a lot of sun/wind so its always hard or icy. Jumps were really fun once they were built though but it took them forever.

Yeah I guess I'm a little biased since I worked there for a season a few years back and really learned my way around, but Rattler Woods, Ho Chi Min, Lady Morgan, and a couple other random hidden spots of Flagstaff are almost always prime.

Just incase there isnt that much snow for you, PCMR has a super nice park at 3 Kings set up since day one. I went opening day last season and they had 2 full sized kickers, and tons of other features.
