Moving to Whistler this season, any advice?

So I'm doing it; harkening the call of the West and plunging into ski bumdom.

I live in Montreal and have been to Whistler a few times over the years, but only for a week or two. My plan this year is to work for WB and live in staff housing. Now I've heard a lot of mixed opinions on the latter, but I'm pretty set on trying it out. At least at the start.

Basically, I'd like to know of any tips, tricks, recommendations or general advice you guys may have for me. I want the 'do's and 'don't's of living in Whistler.

So let's have it!

staff does have its benefits but its only good if you have your own room , and working for the mountain isnt bad either

It does have its benefits, but IMO it would be much more enjoyable to live on your own. Staff accom is probably fun till January.

Okay thanks for the heads up. I'm looking into places now, mostly single or shared rooms in 4-8 bedroom homes, is that the way to go? Also what are the better areas, the ones I've found so far have been in Bayshores, Cay, Alpine and Alta Vista.

i just did a season in alta vista and thought it was sick, always down by the lake chilling. its in the middle of whis and creekside which i thought was useful. i always went up at creekside though. 10 min walk back from whis on a night out which isnt too bad but most of the time we just split a full taxi.

Some jobs working for Whistler Blackcomb can be pretty sweet. Working in one of the bars at night or working split shifts at a retail store will give you time on the hill. Working at one of the mountain restaurants or at the ski school won;t allow you much time to ski on your work day though.

Staff accommodation has is pros and cons. Pros being cheap and good for partys, the cons being loud and cramped.

You get a lot of perks working for the mountain, including free ski pass and the option of staff housing. The major negative here being that if you leave your position you loose your pass and accommodation.

The best places are probably, the village, Whistler cay, Brio, White Gold, Creekside and Blueberry. Alpine is a bit further out but arriving anytime after the start of October makes finding a room difficult. The best deals are in the summer or September.
