Obamacare is going to happen and it's going to be a good thing. If you don't think so for the country as a whole, regardless if you're ignorant or just a brain-less retard, you have to agree that it is good for action sports.

Obamacare is simply a cheap healthcare plan that will allow millions of uninsured to have coverage. How many kids do you know that are uninsured because their only passion in life is skiing and they're not living like 80% of this god-forsaken site- in gated communities.

The same goes for any action sport that is cheap to start but can potentially have injuries where you have to go to the hospital?

BMX, surfing, skateboarding, parkour, croquet, ect.

If not that then think of the ski bums. They're poor because all they want to do is ski but if they fall in some gnarly moguls, they're bankrupt more than they already are. They may not ski for a little while since they have to relocate to another state.

That was a retarded article, i didnt see any mention of the actual quality of the healthcare provided.

We dont have, on average, amazing quality of healthcare, but whats great about it is that you can seek it out and get very good quality healthcare if you need/want. you have a CHOICE, rather than being stuck with average quality and having to wait long periods of time to get it. thats where countries like Canada fall short and why you see so many Canadians coming to the US for more major/important procedures, and why American doctors are so in demand for medical tourism in general.

the more 'enlightened' health care systems of other countries rely on US-based private companies for r&d, clinical trials, and who knows how many thousands of treatments and cures....

why can't we have private health care companies make a ton of money AND have hospitals provide care regardless of the person's ability to pay?

I hate stupid people who believe that employer behavior like that is acceptable and that companies should have the right to hold our economy and peoples' jobs hostage, just so they can save a few bucks and hopefully deny millions of healthcare.

Companies, especially small businesses give your sorry ass a job. Obamacare is a costly pain in the ass for small businesses. It is not less expensive and business owners will have to pay people just to figure out what they have to do.

Large corporations are going to figure out ways to get out of Obamacare. It has already been delayed for big businesses. The guys who are going to get screwed, as usual, are the small business owners. They don't have the armies of lawyers, accountants and lobbyist to help them.

I have to write a check for $900 to the lawyers just to have them send one email. I can't even begin to imagine how much it would cost to have someone determine if my business was in compliance. Obamacare blows dead monkeys!

I think people need to step back and look at this objectively. As a Canadian, I don't know the details of Obamacare, but I can offer my opinion as someone paying higher taxes than the Americans, but also reaping the rewards that come with it.

Lots of people at some time in their life develop a terminal illness, be it cancer, MS, etc. These conditions have an awful lot of healthcare costs associated with them, and can financially destroy many families. While it should be noted that privatized healthcare can in some scenarios save the person money (especially in the short term) and provide more streamlined care, the burden of a higher tax in exchange for socialized healthcare can improve the quality of life for many more people, and pay off in the long run.

Obamacare can be a pain in the behind for some of the people who don't need it, but it can't be denied that refusing healthcare to those in need is disgusting, and you'd have to be cruel to wish it upon someone that they not be able to receive care. There are plenty of other ways to reap the rewards of hard work that shouldn't infringe on other people's rights to good health.

1. The law is going force people to buy insurance from those big corporations you say you hate, thus making them even more money.
2. Businesses of all sizes have already said they are planning on stopping new hires and lowering work hours so they don't have to pay for new employee health plans, and some of the ones that do are dropping employee coverage.
3. We already have a shortage of doctors and surgeons in the country, just wait to see how long the lines will be at the emergency room when people bring their kids to the ER to get a band-aid for a paper cut.
4. Instead of 30% of people getting decent healthcare, 95% of us will get mediocre healthcare...is that really a solution?
5. The government is in charge of mass health and healthcare policy, does anyone really trust them with that?
6. Morale hazard. If everyone has insurance then they will take less care of themselves.

You guys need to have a little faith in your government. Or vote for someone with a harmonized healthcare system. Private AND public and you get to choose. But utilitarianism would dictate that the 95% is the greater good and is in fact a solution.

1. It's only forcing those that don't have health insurance and they'll be part of groups that allow rates at a fraction of what people pay now... HEALTH INSURANCE IS GOOD.

Nobody here said it was acceptable. I got hired a few months ago by village police for a part time dispatch gig. They went on a spree of hiring part timers instead of hiring one or two full timers. The full timers start at least four bucks more than part timers and p/t gets no benefits. Also, takes overtime away from the patrolman because the p/t takes the night shift. This is the new reality for many people. Now forced to get multiple p/t jobs to get 40 hrs.no and get no benefits.

Now in my case that is a village penny pinching. However, corporations with CEOs making millions are doing the same thing. There are flaws.

That might be my Canadian where minority governments do exist and it is possible to have majority opposition, so you know that things can't get pushed too far.

The government shouldn't have any motives other than keeping the MAJORITY of the people content. Really its corporations (driven entirely by profit) who are out to manipulate the people. I agree with capitalism as much as any other person, but anarchy isn't my idea of a utopia. Western society is way too far gone to go anywhere remotely near communism, so having a little faith in something will never have as dire consequence as what people dream up.

What I find more dangerous than a minor tax increase designed to help people is the american ant-government, super conservative doctrine that creates an enormous gap between upper and lower classes, all in the name of "freedom." As long as the people making the money have lower income people believing any and all socialized programs are communist, those lower income people are just as oppressed as ever, becoming slaves to capitalism rather than being liberated by it.

For examples, look at many european countries with higher taxes and high standards of living, or stare at Cuba and the level of education and the access to healthcare they have. Each political model has its merits, but to be closed minded to all but one is counter productive. All good things in moderation.

Canadian health care isn't as amazing as it sounds. After tearing both my ACL's my parents paid a ridiculous amount of money for my rehab to get me the best care possible. There are areas of private practise where you pay a lot of money for superior care, and you pay out the ass for elective surgeries. Either way, for me the argument for some sort of national health care program is for the larger economies of scale - taxation works because everyone pays a little bit to pitch in for a bigger whole. Works especially well when needs of people can be concentrated into a few general areas, with some pockets of specialization. That's not to say that it can be run effectively - or even that it is for that matter. People tend to over use and abuse the system... And as there's more money in specialization, many young doctors are choosing that route rather than opting for general medicine - which would keep people with the flu out of the ER... Or similar, simple ailments that frequently, often in rural areas, clog up the ER, using the most advanced and expensive equipment unnecessarily. It's ridiculously hard to find a family doctor where I live, and the government will pay you to go to rural areas if you're a young med school grad. I haven't even touched on my opinions on big pharma, but the whole game's rigged anyway. Neither system is best, nor particularly well run. And costs just keep going up.

Also there are plenty of articles and reports that highlight dangerous inefficiencies in hospitals due to long lines and a lack of doctors, all you have to do is take some time off from calling people "fucking idiots" and look them up.

The percentages aren't the point, I was alluding to how there is a finite amount of resources in the healthcare sector and when you increase the number of patients the quality of care will almost inevitably go down, just like anything else when it gets mass produced/serviced.

Obamacare is just copying the Canadian healthcare system and let me tell you something - it's not that great. You will have longer wait times, shittier doctors and if youre in the mid to high income range you're going to get taxed up the anus... Judging by the amount of money it costs to ski I'd say that's pretty much all of you---'re parents.

Try having type 1 diabetes and paying for healthcare. No fucks given right, because you don't have diabetes. I am going to have to choose healthcare or being able to live on my own. Every 3 months if it weren't for my insurance I would have to pay just over 3,000 for supplies. Thats 12,000 a year just for supplies. let alone doctors visits countless times a year. I HAVE TO HAVE HEALTHCARE. But that fact is I'm not going to be able to afford it and ski, and eat well, and have my cell phone, and my rent. It sucks and I am terrified of that day.

If you knew how much simple procedures like stitches and blood tests costed without insurance, you wouldn't think twice about paying slightly more in taxes... and it's funny that you mention it like it's a terrible thing when you're in the "mid to high income range" where you can easily afford the slightly higher tax rate.

The doctors in Canada aren't necessarily worse. I think it is only fair to pass judgement on the access to care, versus the quality of an individual's work. Canada's taxes are quite fair relative to many European countries.

For sure no one likes paying taxes, but in many cases they are the lesser of evils, especially when it comes to access to health care, which will at the very least stop you dying. Keep in mind there are other much more exclusive things that taxes pay for in Canada, such as supporting our first nations peoples as well as other social infrastructure like education and such. We also don't run the same national deficit as the Americans, and that must be considered.

No doubt, social programs are never as efficient as privatized institutions offering the same product. The reason that skierman and others support ObamaCare is because it makes something like healthcare, which in the private sector becomes exclusive, accessible to everyone.

Why is it such a crime to help a fellow human being get medical help when they need it, when it does not impede on other people's freedom to choose their own personal health care? Most people who aren't worried about paying hospital bills will continue not worrying about paying bills regardless of ObamaCare's tax implications.

They were able to go into any emergency room anywhere in the country and receive treatment, before Obamacare. Now they will not be able to do that and they will have to go see their physician.

The exchanges will fail and were meant to fail. Obama wanted a single payer system from the start. That means one government controlled health insurance.

Ponder this for a moment, whichever side of this issue you fall on: think of how dysfunctional congress is right now, and you want these people making decisions for you about your healthcare?
