Skiing Chile

Me and some of my friends are planning a trip to Chile next summer. Portillo seems pretty expensive, so we want to go somewhere else. Does anyone know any other sick spots in Chile? Also, does anyone have any other advice for us when were down there?

Nevados de chillan - pretty unknown local hill but still fucking huge - sick alpine terrain and sidecountry, and also one of the only places in chile where you can ski trees and pillows. Locals are chill and the town of las trancas is really cool. I would definitely check it out

Also, the main three resorts, 1 hour away from Santiago: Valle nevado, El Colorado and La Parva.
La parva is expensive and mostly boring, El colorado has the biggest park in south america and a great side country zone (Santa Tere) and Valle nevado is very good all around, good place since its always empty and there are some sick lines too.

El Colorado/Farellones is a great place for sure, Santa Teresa is the fucking tits. Portillo isn't really that expensive though, if you you stay in the dorm rooms it's around $1000 a week depending on what time of year you are there, that sounds a lot, but that includes pass and 4 meals a day. Also the slingshot lifts are the best thing ever invented.

Chillan sounds good too, but I have never got to go there.

I am going to Portillio next summer and have heard only great things about it. I know that it is expensive but I think it's definitely worth the investment.

Also interested in this.

I plan on studying abroad there for a summer semester in the next couple years, specifically to Universidad de Santiago, just wondering what the best/closest/cheapest places are around there.

Also is it easy to get to the ski areas without a car?

Yes, like I said before, the three main resorts (El Colorado, Valle nevado and La Parva) are 1 hour away from the city you are planning on going. Also, you can get a lift to any of those resorts from what we call here "transfers" for 20 dollars at the most.

This is all true.

I've been to Valle Nevado, La Parva and Nevados de chillan, and Nevados is my favourite for sure. One of the best places I've been to, and highly recommended.

The only issue is that it gets windy and they close the top chairs pretty frequently,and sometimes the snow won't be very good in the lower elevations so tree skiing might not be ideal.
