Help me make my jib

I want to build some kind of a triangle rail, not sure what it's called. Triangle shape with the rail on top and sides slanted down. Pretty sure there's been a thread on making one of these before, but I can't find it. Right now I'm thinking having it 8 feet long and a foot and a half or two feet high. I've got 90 feet in 2x4s for the frame, and plywood to cover the sides along with a pvc tube for the rail itself. My question is what angle should I make the sides at? I want it to make them not shallow enough that the rail will be 4 feet wide, but I don't want it to be so steep that you wont be able to play around on the side of the rail. Also if there are any other obvious red flags that I'll come across when making this, it'd be great to know.

Do you mean slanted side like a jersey barrier? But more of an aframe style with straight slants?

If that's what you're going for are you actually going to use the sides?

If you're just going to slide it front to end might as well just build a normal rail. If you want to hit it from multiple angles or drop in to the sides than go for it.


Wouldn't be very hard to build. Just frame it up out of 2x4s, slap some ply on there and through your pvc on top nice and snug.


Unless that isn't what you're building and then I have no idea.

This is what I had meant. Going into it I planned out everything, all the cuts, angles, and nail placements were dialed to hundredths of an inch. After 20 minutes into building it I ended up more or less eyeballing everything. Turned out fine. Only thing I wish I'd done differently is realize how short an 8 foot rail really is. Also 45 degree angles for the sides is steeper that I thought, but still works fine.

yeah, things sometimes seem longer than they are. Especially when you get into kinked rails. You could combo your rail with a flat or an up on the front to make it longer. Then you could slide let's say a 12' up and then land into the sides of your 8 footer
