This is a trend that started with the xx/xx (year) ON3P threads.. The ON3P guys being awesome as they are, people could ask questions about their gear in there and they would awnser.. This is in gear talk which sounds logic.
ON3P got a lot of attention by that and Surface Ski's noticed that and started the thread 'Surface Noise':
'The official thread for all things Surface. We will check it every day and do our best to answer your questions about the brand, the product, the team riders, new plans, trips and other curiosities. For better or worse.
Check back every Friday as we will choose one random contributor to this thread and send them a complimentary care package to their doorstep. Simple as that.'
Today I open gear talk and Amplid started a thread just like that..
What do you guys think about this?
Can't they use cults for that?
I dont think it is desirable to have gear talk stuffed/contaminated with these 'Ask a question and we will awnser'-threads..

what's the point in that forum if not for threads exactly like the ones you mention?

it's a great way to get involved with the community, provide customer service and be personable to customers. i think its great and it gives people the opportunity to get answers straight from the company instead of scouring the internet for an answer.

Yes it is, I dont say they cant make these threads, but why not in a cult? If more companies will make these threads, the whole first page of gear talk will be filled with thes company threads right?
Why not in a cult?

so that's exactly what those threads are? places where people can ask all kinds of questions about gear and get answers. answers directly from the manufacturer in these cases, which is even better.

To be honest that was one of the initial plans for cults was to give brands their own little slice of NS, but in reality it hasn't worked that way. The general population of users don't tend to search out cults for specific things, and would rather just communicate in the main forums. Therefor the Brands are in turn staying in Gear Talk etc because that is where the fans are. We are hoping a revamping of forums in the coming while will help drive people back to using forums, but in the mean time this seems to be how things work. We can give you all the awesome cults, pages and tools we can think of, but in the end how people use the site and what we create lies hugely on the members.
