RC nerds

Who is into rc things? Ive always been a huge nerd when it comes to rc flight.

for my senior project in college i had to fully design a fully operational drone to carry 15 lbs with a 3 lb deployable cargo. Then go compete with it in the SAE international comp in LA. It was complete with sensors for temp, alt and air speed while sending the data, along with live video feed to the ground station.

Personally, I just have a xieda 9958 heli which I have gotten quite good at flying. Super fun indoor flying.
But today I just bought a hobby king walrus powered glider. Super stoked to fly that around. Put a gopro on it and fly around my local ski hill. Cant wait. Maybe even attach some estes rockets under the wing for the 6th channel.

Anyone else on ns also nerd out on rc hobbies? What do you have? Easily the best way to find girls

More of a off road guy myself. Have a t4 xxxbk2 sc10 and a ofna buggie that i forget what model it is but its not a hyper.

radian pro....lost my radian flying in the mountains, looked down to get better footing and couldn't find it again...lol probably still flying

pretty fun learning trim/landing/thermal flying

I was into mostly cars and raced short-course for a couple years. At one point i had 12 cars and 4 planes, 3 of which i built myself out of insulation foam.

If by this you mean you're going to make your plane able to fire missiles, then please, please do this. Or if you're gonna make it have rocket boosters I guess that's cool as well.

I used to be huge into RC, but once I got older I moved on to things you can actually drive. Still have my collection though. I have a decent sized RC chopper, a Team Losi Mini-t, and a few things from traxxas.

Thanks, there's a little scratch on the lens which is annoying but I think it came out pretty good.

Blade Mcpx

Planes:
Carbon Z Yak
Tiger 2 with a 0.60 in it
Sig Kadet with a 0.40 in it
An insane amount of micros, most of them scratch built.

Surface:
SC10
Mini Revo
Micro-T

I definitely prefer flying 3D the most, but really, everything is pretty fun.

Get into short course truck racing at you local dirt hobby track. Way funner that helicopters and i find it to be more social than flying.

Do people just make planes or wings/foils out of foam and glass, or just foam even since I guess glass and resin isn't totally needed?

Well it's had a rough life. On my first night out with it, I completely lost a rudder servo in flight. Luckily it was only rudder so I was able to land it just fine, I just couldn't taxi back in. In the end, the servo's gears had completely detonated, so I dumped some digital steel gear Hitecs into it.

A few more flights later, I was doing some fast flatspins and stabbed the throttle to exit one and the prop and hub shot off the motor and I couldn't get it back out of the spin, was just way too low by that point. The airplane smacked the ground and the fuse split in two. I ended up gluing it back together, and putting a set screw in the prop hub and the airplane has been fine ever since.

Overall it's not a super high quality airplane. For the price, I'd go buy something from precision aerobatics and built that up next time.

I'd say building rc planes is pretty akin to building surfboards although I've never done the latter. Me and my dad have both done built up balsa wings, and glass coated foam wings, and hybrids of the two. There's so many ways to build though.

If you're into lightweight parts, make a foam/glass part then drill a small hole and solvate the foam out of it.
