i may sound like a newb but what exactly is a "concept" album? what makes it different from a regular ol album?

something about all the skits and interludes in this album make me love it! vaudeville villain is pretty sick too, (i'm a sucker for doom. + sci fi pushes my buttons)

A concept album is an album that has a unifying idea, or some greater theme that the rest of the album fits into. So for example, Pink Floyd's Animals, which has tracks named after certain animals, and the animals are used as metaphors for things people do. "Dogs" being somewhat about the rat race, competition in business and life, etc.
Another example would be Deltron 3030, which is set in the year 3030 and is about the adventures of deltron and his sidekick dan the automator (ie producer and rapper), in the year 3030.

my others have been mentioned already. ithis isn't really a concept album in the sense that dark side of the moon is, but i'd still say it is one. the entire thing is written about the death of Simon Neil (the guitarist/ singer)'s mum from cancer and his experiences of it and dealing with the aftermath etc, and that experience and feeling evolves throughout to a solid (and positive) conclusion, without straying into complete misery or cliche (it's hard to explain, you'd have to listen to it)
