Park Etiquette

In honor of the beginning of the 2004-2005 season I think it is a good idea to compile some information on park etiquette. Include the sayings (dropping in, etc.), when to use them, the lines for the rope tows and jbars (whether or not to ride them all the way to the top) and anything else you can think of.

also this happens alot at my hill, when im about to hit any sort of jibbin object i sometimes here the sound of a someone gettin closer to me. I look back and there are kids trailing me really close. if i fall all of them and i are screwed. so waht im trying to say is give people room

From the Park City Resort 'ride guide'

1. check out features before riding them
2. go for features that match your ability.Use mellow features to work up to larger ones
3. Stay clear of jumps landings. Riders cant see you when they jump.
4.wait your turn. Ride features one person at a time. Don't crowd others.
5. Be aware of other riders. go with the flow of the park.
6. Ride with a friend who knows the park.
7. You are responsible for yourself and your actions in the park.

if your an old man and you dont want to hit the jumps, then don't do gs turns through the middle of the park
if your a little kid and you want to progress in skiing, then build your way up to big jumps instead of hitting the corner of them

Its fun to see how many 3-8 year olds you can hit in one day. You can also rack up points because of what stuff you can knock off them or make happen, for example: 1 point for taking off one of their mittens, 2 for knocking off both. 3 for knocking there goggles below their chin, 4 for getting snow down their suits. 5 for making their parents yelling at you. 6 for making them cry. 7 for knocking off their skis, 8 for making their poles fall off (bonus, because most little kids dont ski with poles), 9 for making them say the F-word, and 10 for laughing at what you just did. My record was 86 points in one day.

Its not always a bad thing to snake people dudes.....like when these damn kids at my resort hit the damn box straight on like twenty times in a row. You're allowed to be a complete prick then and snake them and force them to leave. This actually helps because it makes the park less crowded, i suggest trying it. ANd i LOVEEEE when these damn kids get pissed at you for doing it, its beautiful

Our mountain last year had such bad lines for hits. there was a jump like in the middle of the two lines for hitting the same jump at the bottom, so you couldnt see if the people on the other side of you were going or not. and i would always either cut people off/get cutt off. it was very badly designed

^ Michelle, yeah that was annoying. What was a 'table top' for a little while in the center of the park near the bottom ended up being used as a parking place for people to wait for the two kickers at the bottom and form yet ANOTHER drop line in the middle of the park. People just need to pick their line at the beginnign of their run, drop into the park, and get the hell out. I'm tired of having to speed check because some little kid all of the sudden decided he's gonna snake my built up full speed into a hit.

Have you ever seen a little kid slide back down the inrun of a kicker without going over? This is why parents shouldn't dump their kids off anywhere near the park...

remember, just saying droppin next doesn't mean the coast is clear.
-someone could have stacked before you and could be crumpled up on the landing
-other people might have the big ear phones on and can't hear
-there's always the hard group who rally through the park and ignor your 'droppin next' chime
-just build kickers and scrap the park

I think my biggest gripes about parks are:
A. Snowboarder who see the landings of jumps as the perfect place to pop a squat.
B. Kids who wipe out on the landing and dont move for 10 minutes.
