I've seen most of the early releases this year. I've seen Mutiny, The Wallisch Project, and Wreckalections. I have to say, I'm really impressed by the music this year. There were songs that I actually enjoyed. There wasn't a ton of shitty "cheap rights" rap and electronic music. The music actually worked. It was cohesive. Good work ski movie dudes.
I've been watching ski flicks since, basically forever. I've basically seen em all. I started watching the movies in 2001 with Ski Movie 2 and Propaganda. A friend of mine hooked me up with the older movies like Fade to Black, Degenerates, 13, The Game, Balance, and Second Generation. It was mostly old punk at that time which perfectly represented the unaccepted scene we were involved in. Level 1 probably had the best music. They had unheard of music that was really good, which was important in the pre-youtube/social media day. Even then, MSP was pretty awful. They had a lot of shitty rap and roll.
Since then, I've seen just about every major ski movie. I write for a few ski magazines and usually end up reviewing the ski movies. I've heard it all. We were in a real slump for years. This is the first year in a long time I'm not embarrassed when I listen to ski movies.
These days, I'm a big fan of soul music and early 60s garage rock. So far, we've got that. Great work. I was a little bit disappointed to hear the second song from The Wallisch Project. Decker and Tom totally knocked that shit from a K2 Summerschool/Stept/Conor Scofield Windell's edit in 2011. in the next few weeks, we'll all get to see
What do you guys think of music in ski movies? Did you have a problem with the music? Do you think it's great music and I'm totally full of shit?
