Deciding between these 2 schools plus Western Washington. Want to know what your guys thoughts on which school is best in terms of academics and everyday life, I will be going into the business program at one of the schools. At western I can get instate, but at UNR and U of U I can get WUE which doesn't make the price all that bad. Opinions NS?

I can only speak to the U but it does have a pretty good business school that is getting better by the year. Also it is extremely cheap once you get in state.

UNR for sure.  Better booze, better parties, better hookers, gambling never stops and the bars are open for a loooong time.  and business majors have even more time to kill on that stuff than anyone else.

also the skiing is legit. big mountains, big lines, good parks, lake Tahoe. pretty much all you need to know. who wants to hang out on the beach of the great salt lake? lets be real

definitely a bigger better party scene at utah that UNR. Lets be honest, there's virtually nothing in reno. Probably a better ski school, but not the better school. Also in retrospect if i had to identical job applicants walk in and one had a degree from utah and one from UNR, the one from utah would most likely be hired because its a more recognizable school

----No, it's not the prettiest downtown, but few actually are. If you're on campus and around the school, it's a kick ass fucking atmosphere. Not to mention skiing Tahoe is way cheaper than skiing Utah, and you have more resorts at your close disposal. The school isn't going to be IV league, but It's an accredited university with a business program that will get you where you want if you're willing to work hard (like every other university you're considering.)

Salt Lake? ZOMG fucking mormons, you can't drink, prepare for prudes and D.A.R.E.
----No, you're not in Provo. Relax. Yes, there will be a mormon population. Yes, it might be moreso than you would see in Reno, but this is what you make it and if you want to party, there will be parties. If you currently live in NV, then yes, you'll have to adjust to things closing earlier. You'll have to accept that there will be a "last call" at the bars. If you want to gamble.....well....you can't. But if you're choosing Reno to gamble, then you're not smart enough to go to college. Salt Lake is nestled in some of the baddest peaks this side of the Mississippi and they get snow conditions sometimes unheard of in other regions of the U.S. Your NS type population will be much heavier, meaning you'll have an easier time finding park/backcountry style skiers.

I'd like to add an addendum to this.

As you know, I went to UNR. Love my school, had a great time there, and my degree has gotten me several very successful careers. I considered U of U and ultimately decided against it for several reasons.

Looking back on it, I knew I'd never settle down in Reno. I knew I'd never settle down in Park City. Reno was a great place to go to school. Life around campus is amazing and some of the most fun times of my life. I'd recommend attending and living near campus to anyone, anywhere, anytime. I'd never want to live there after graduation. I always knew I'd live in Denver, and if I hadn't had financial constraints I would have been in Boulder over both of these choices. So in the end it didn't matter to me where I went to school cause Colorado was my future home.

Something to think about.

Why you should pick SLC...

SLC is cheap for living (Rent and Amenities wise)

Close proximity to the mtns (most are a half hour away from my house)

Mormon are not as much of a bother as you've been told

U of U is a decent school and In-State tuition is next to nothing

More real people live here than Reno I assure you (Half my friends here are transplants with the same skiing mentality)

SLC's one of the best places to work, too. lots of companies popping up left and right all over the place.

but yeah, this place sucks. no alcohol and stuff. pls dont come.

Can you rally get WUE to U of U? I called and asked how many they gave out and they said only around 30 ish people actually got WUE there. I did however get WUE to UNR

I disagree with this for a number of reasons. I will agree with the point that for a lot of people a degree is just a degree, and the point that having a GPA matters etc., but going to a school that ranks highly definitely has its benefits. If you just go to class, there's probably not a huge difference between #50 and #100, but I guarantee you that school #50 is going to have a lot more resources than #100. It'll have the money to let you get involved in research your freshman year, have more connections with the industry so it's easier to land a job, and probably have nicer facilities. The often unnoticed shit is what really matters. You can get a lot of experience at a highly ranked school that could help you get your career started much easier.

You guys are comparing the whole academic programs. Figure out what you want to do and them decide. I go to unr and their earth science, education, engineering and nursing are all great colleges and the business isn't bad either. I don't know about Utah. Talk to someone there and see what Utah has to offer. Once you get that down then you can look at the rest of the differences.
Also, choose it for your education, not everything else. College is to educate you #1. Not to allow you to move out to ski and party.

I got accepted to U of U Boulder and Mines. i'm going to U of U, no i'm not Mormon, nor do i dislike them. as for partying i think its what you make it and with all the NSers on here bitching about no partying we could have a great party.
