Replying to Any skiers dealing with external tibial torsion?
"That external tibial torsion in particular is a "deformity" that can interfere markedly with parallel skiing." - from the abstract of a scientific journal articles in the 70s.
So I have external tibial torsion (the bone is twisted such that my feet stick ~30+ degrees to the side when my knees are forward) and it tends to create issues with my skiing. I'm dead slow on cat tracks as to keep both my feet pointed forward my knees collapse towards each other and I roll onto my inside edges. I get weird cramps on the outside of my shins that cause me to lose feeling in my boots. Plus lots of strain on the hips/knees as they're never in a neutral position.
Anybody else dealing with this? If so have you found any tricks for keeping your skis flat when moving straight? Calf stretches that isolate the outside of the shin? Knee/hip exercises that address the weird torque problems? I'm getting sick of skiing meaning constant knee injuries and pain but increasing general strength doesn't seem to help.
