Can you dye cork?

This just popped into my head as I am about to purchase a new fishing rod/reel and I just noticed that literally every aspect of it is murdered out... Except the cork handle. This led me to wonder if you can you dye cork black without it turning your hands black too. Never dyed anything before but I see people doing it on here all the time so I figured I'd ask.


What are your thoughts?

If it's a water based dye (most likely) then I don't expect you'd be able to. Cork is a impermeable material. That's why it floats on water so well.


Have you thought about swapping the handle to neoprene? The majority of the time neoprene is black.

Honestly I could not care less who wears what, I just like to make fun of people who take themselves too seriously about shit. Swaggots are just so emotionally fragile they're easily 10x as much fun to fuck with as anyone else- case in point you, right now... I ask a simple question and you lead in crying about how I made fun of someone once, and how a black handle would make me a total fucking hypocrite. Riiiiiiiiiiight. Carry on!

but what if he wants to illegal fishing at night? he can't have some bright natural cork coloured grip giving him away. This could be a matter of life and um, life with slightly less money due to fines.

i would test it out on a bottle cork first and see if that works. just get some black rit dye put it in a pot that u dont care about boil it up and put the cork in till it turns solid black and then leave it to dry for a while. after that rinse it with a lot of water. im guessing it might bleed a lot of dye at first but after it stops u shouldn't get any left over dye on your hands.
