Do you think that's punishment enough for using chemical weapons? AKA, do you guys think this action is deterrent for other nations to uphold the standard expectation that you shouldn't use chemical weapons or risk severe retaliation from the international community?

Seems like a good alternative to limited strikes if it's a strong enough message.

Ewwwww. This is fucking embarrassing for Obama. Come on, I'll ask congress in 10 days and then we'll go form there... Ewww. I'm all for intervention but saying we're going to wait it out for awhile and then talk about it when there have been shitloads of polls from day 1 saying hell no, we aren't going to approve this is dumb. Kerry is the only one being a bad ass and he's even too late to the party. It seems like Putin is the one saving the day.

Like it or not, the US is Team America: World Police. The US is big brother. Do fucked up shit and there will be consequences. The point of the UN, and laws on the local to international level is to make everyone accountable for their actions. Right now, no one is holding Syria accountable and that's the problem. This isn't a court case where the defendant has been taken off the streets and is in custody and we can take all the time in the world to figure out what is going on. It's an imperfect game of what we know vs. what we think.

Someone has to hold Syria accountable for their actions. We shouldn't it be US, because we don't want to pay for the airstrikes so it shouldn't be our problem?

I don't like it. And fuck accepting it, just because we're the biggest and baddest doesn't mean we have to go around fucking shit up anytime there is a dispute in the world. This isn't a superman comic, sides are not clear cut, and there is no way we can punch some bad guy in the mouth and fly home. There WILL be lasting implications to any US action or inaction. Military inaction is a shit sandwich, but it will taste a fuck of a lot better than the full-blown shit diet of intervention.

Saddam had the same option. Disarm, or be disarmed. Sometimes calling a bluff can burn you, as it did for us in Iraq, but at least it lets the other players at the poker table know that you just might be fucking crazy.

Or maybe Russia knew that Assad isn't crazy/stupid enough to bring the U.S. into a fight he obviously has the upper hand in by using chemical weapons on an area that made no strategical sense... they are allies after all and Putin doesn't seem that dumb so there had to be some understanding for Assad giving weapon control over to Russia.

The presidency will claim a victory and so will Russia and Assad. Winners all around... even if Assad is still a fucking asshole and that dick of his should be chewed off by termites.

But really who gives a fuck? We are not getting involved in some Middle Earth bullshit! I need to find me a fine-ass nurse to make out with in public.
