Xbox-HDMI-Monitor No sound?

So I've hooked up my xbox 360 to my asus monitor with an hdmi cable and the visuals are fantastic, but unfortunately my turtle beaches finally crapped out. For some reason I can't get the audio to play through my monitor (which does have speakers). The volume is on 100 and I still have no luck. I also have a VGA cable hooked up to it from my laptop and any video that plays on the monitor, the audio comes through my laptop. I tried opening the control panel and sound settings and that doesn't even recognize the monitor. Any help? Thanks.

see if the speakers on the monitor are set as the default audio out.

Have you ever gotten audio out of your monitor? The VGA cable doesn't carry audio, so don't worry about that part.

How can I find where to see this? The only audio setting in the menu monitor is volume really.

Try and set it on your Xbox by going into the sound settings because its probably still set for your turtle beaches. Sorry that's probably not that much help I haven't used my Xbox in forever.

you would need to hook up speakers. for my setup i just have x12s and an acer monitor. no external speakers. sucks for when other people are in the room or im watching a movie. but i seldom have people over and watch movies on my xbox.

Is the monitor HDMI or are you using an HDMI-DVI adapter? I have a monitor with speakers that uses HDMI-DVI and I needed to use the 1/8" in to get any sound.
