Well I don't hate on people and things of which I have no knowledge, so I may be better than you.
Geed is shorthand for GDI, god damn independent. Often a self prescribed term. I'm not the one assigning it a negative connotation.
On that point, how many words do you have for people that are in frats?

Lets look at this from a 3rd party view-

Both groups hate on each other. Greeks make fun of nongreeks, and nongreeks make fun of greeks.


Greeks will mutually joke and make fun of nongreeks on campus when they are together and amongst themselves

Nongreeks sit on an online forum spewing hate on greeks with random people they have never met before.


I honestly dont understand, sure you want to be a unique little butterfly or whatever so you go independent. Making fun of them stoops you down to the level you claim they are at. Why hate? Be better then them in that sense.

Id also like to point out that my gf is very anti greek, today at lunch she was arguing how much greeks hate on nongreeks. I pulled out my phone and showed her this thread just to show her the hate on both sides.

I think it goes both ways there, champ. I've made fun of "Greeks" in person with my friends and to their faces far more than I have ever mentioned it on an online forum. It was incredibly fun to drunkenly yell at the stupid Lamba Chi kids from my balcony when they were bro-ing out on the front lawn across the street. I have also never seen more people defend frats with shitty logic and idiotic arguments than here on this website, soo...yeah?

see, the thing that bothers me with this is that they're not Greek. maybe a couple were born in/have ancestry from Greece, but they're in general not Greek.

I dunno why you want to be associated with a country that's so far in the shitter a plunger can't get it out.




But getting completely serious, I have nothing against frat bros besides the odd ones who think they're king shit because they're in a frat. just fun to get people riled up on the internet.

I get the whole arguing online for fun thing.
But like actually in a non-confrontational sense, we don't associate ourselves with the country, just the letters we use and houses have Greek mottoes and whatnot.

I do, how many geeds have you fought while you were in college by yourself for talking shit? O none, I have gotten into quite a few fights (although one was a brawl and I was fighting with my friends frat against another frat up at bing.) and i find it really funny how next day a frat go out in packs looking for a kid because one member got his shit rocked. (well that's not all frats just one frat at CU)

Well, this thread took a turn for the hilarious. I love how you can see the bro rage slowly building up in Mr Brewski because he feels the undying need to defend his fratness. "n...nuh uh! It's usually THREE against one, not four. Stupid geeders! Frats are so chill, bro."

In a somewhat related story... I once had 6 frat guys try to beat my ass at the MSU Sigma Chi house after I climbed in a window to retrieve an errant frisbee toss. Oh, did I mention this was in the middle of the afternoon and I was pretty clearly not doing anything wrong? So bro, bro. It's ok though, I retaliated by going back that night on the way home from the bar, sneaking in the same window, and stealing a bunch of their Greek Week trophies from their trophy case AND a giant pan of spaghetti. It was a glorious and triumphant victory. I went back the next night and stole some pie too hahaha. Ah, memories.

The best part of this thread is that everyone talking trash on frats sound exactly like a frat bro. "They pissed me off so I went and stole their trophies and now I hate them forever" - Frat Star at any university ever. To be completely honest, my friends in my fraternity and those that weren't greek all did the same shit on weekend. Get drunk and do stupid shit.

Being in a frat wasn't cool because of the community service we did or grades or any of that shit. It was fun because we got to take the money we "bought our friends" with and spend it on fun things. Being able to plan and throw parties for hundreds of people in college was a blast and it's something that most people outside of the greek community don't experience. It's a bummer that people hate on it so much just because they don't understand it. It's certainly not for everyone but don't discourage people from at least taking a look at greek life and deciding for themselves.

I'm in SAE at Puget Sound. Our house isn't quite like those at big state schools in terms of craziness and rambunctiousness but it's still a blast.

I'm personally not in a frat, and I don't know too much about them other than the typical stereotypes. However I am not posting in this thread to come across as Johnny One Upper, but no frat/sorority will ever come close to the brotherhood that you find serving in the U.S. armed forces. The people I have met being in the Air Force are some of the best people I have ever met in my entire life, and I would put my life on the line for them at any moment, wartime or on the streets from some criminal holding them up. This type of brotherhood you can't explain, but something you need to experience to comprehend. Again, hate to play the one upper here but putting on a job resume that you were in the service or in a frat, 95% of employers will take the current/prior service member.

What a terrible comparison. Joining the military is a huge time commitment. You can be in a fraternity and do an internship at the same time. You can't do that when you're in the military. Putting an internship down on a resume looks way better than being a grunt in the military.


Unless you're talking about ROTC, in which case you're drastically overselling the brotherhood aspect.

I went through Rush and pledged Sig Ep at OSU but dropped out after a few weeks. After that I was pretty much an "honorary member" and still went to all of the parties and frat functions but without having to do all of the BS frat stuff. I went to a bunch of date parties with Gamma Phis and Thetas and my girlfriend for half of my sophomore year was a Pi Phi. If it's a dry campus and they can't throw parties in the actual frat houses then there is not much point to it.

I'm a member of Pi Beta Phi. And I have many friends who are non greek and greek alike. I always said I would never join a sorority and now I'm insanely involved in mine. It's kind of weird how stuff works out that way. However, it pisses me off when non greeks have such bad attitudes towards all greeks based on stereotypes or their bad experiences with one group of douchey guys.

I'm on a dry campus, and the school is a really nerdy one so the frats are different than at a state school or Ivy. They're laid back and chill. But off campus most frats either own or rent a house

Then I feel bad that you haven't met any of the good "frat dudes" because there are plenty. But I think you're right that there are a lot that play into the stereotype. The stereotype was put in place for a reason.

But I also know how annoying and untrue the sorority girl stereotype is for the vast majority of sorority girls i know.

I agree, however house parties can only be so fun. There are hundreds of alternative ways to party, or have fun in general, worthy of spending that much money. Being stuffed into a box with a bunch of sweaty kids desperate to get laid? That's a $3,000 meh right there.

I can justify paying maybe 10-20 bucks if im going to a house party, up to 50-60 if im going to a bar... but dude you don't have to buy 12 kegs and 50 handles to have fun. Sure, providing booze for a party is sick and when you can go somewhere and drink for free its fun, but not super realistic. Some of the best parties I've been too were byob, the most ever 3-4 kegs maybe a $400 budget at the most.

I never said you couldn't have fun at other parties. At my school we weren't allowed to spend our event budget on alcohol so parties were either byob or the members would have a separate slush fund to provide booze. It's for things like filling your basement with sand to throw a beach party or sweet Halloween decorations.
