hey guys, so i really want to get into skateboarding but i have no idea where to start. if anybody could help me out in getting started in terms of what kind of board and shit like that to buy, it would be much appreciated. +k to any help
just go to your local shop and they'll help you out. or check out craigslist or ask around and find something someone's getting rid of--there's really no reason to go out and buy a brand new setup unless you don't know anyone who skates. not that there's anything wrong with buying a new setup of course.
I've just been getting into it again and made pretty good progress since July I guess--just know that skating is incredibly difficult and has a really steep learning curve. it's really fun and a good use of any down time--it's awesome cause you can spend hours just dicking around in your driveway. I recommend first getting really comfortable riding around and then use youtube videos to get an idea of how to do ollies and other stuff eventually. it took me a solid 2+ months to get a moving kickflip and I still am nowhere near being able to do them consistently haha.
as for certain brands, basically everyone has their own opinion. I'm still pretty new to it, but I think that there isn't a huge difference, people just align with what they've had from the start and shun those ones that they've had some odd bad experience with. more seasoned skaters will probably have legit reasons for their affiliations, but for beginners like us it really doesn't matter.
make sure you get good shoes! it makes such a difference! vans eras are pretty standard but you might want more of a mid top or something; it's really personal preference though.
I would start with a 8 inch deck. its a pretty standard size. as far as brand it doesnt really matter when you start. as long as you are purchasing from a legit skate shop anything will be fine. eventually you will figure out what you like. a skateboard will cost you right around 100 buck and most of the parts last a long time so it is a good investment.
for the board you just need to go to your local shop and find a board you like (8 inch would be good). There's not a better board, its all the same thing. For the trucs independant is good but like I said its all the same things just find one you like. For the wheels take the stiffest one (spitfire and bones are good brands). The most important things is the shoes, you need a good one. (I realy like lakai and nike but dc, vans, etc will do perfecly the job).
I just started skateboarding and I love it. Although I can only Ollie, do all 4 180's, and kinda pop shuvit. I'm following the Aaron kyro path thingy. Definitely look him up on YouTube, or search Braille skateboarding. Look in this thread. It helped me a lot. www.newschoolers.com/ns/forums/readthread/thread_id/751448/
id say to get a Girl board 8" to 8.125" is a good size thats what i have used for however long ive been skating. for trucks id say royal or thunder. wheels you cant go wrong with spitfire. and grip doesnt matter but mob eats up your shoes so i go with jessup. shoes u could go with some janoskis
