ON3P Jeffrey vs Billygoat

Hi, I am getting buying a new pair of skis this year and was leaning towards the Jeffreys, for a do everything one ski quiver. I've been on the JJ's for the past few years and really liked them in powder, but thought that they got a bit squirrely at high speeds on groomers or in crud. I live in SW Colorado, so while I'd love to just buy a big ski and ski powder everyday, I do spend a fair amount of time on hard pack, so performance on groomers is important to me. I don't really go in the park much at all so performance in that area is not important to me.

What I am wondering is which of these two skis will be best for a one ski quiver? Also, is there too much overlap between the two to justify getting both of them? How does the Jeffrey preform on deeper days? Does anyone have any input on how either compare to the JJ?

I know there have been similar posts in the past and I have browsed through them so thanks for any additional input.

I would suggest Billygoats, but their hardpack performance won't be as good as the Jeffery. I love my BGs.

From personal experience, the BG skis like an FIS GS ski. Super stable at high speeds, but not a good turn radius. In fact at slower speeds mine start to wonder haha.

Get the BGs in something soft, and you will be in heaven. Short meter turns, slashing, impossible to sink.

I don't know much about the Jeffrey as I haven't skied it.

It's up to you..would you rather have a ski that performed well on groomers or in pow?

I have owned both. If I had to own only one ski, it would be the Jeffery. If I already had a thinner all mountain ski, then I would get a Billygoat.

I ski Caylors on most deep days, but the jeffrey is my everything ski, I've skied it everything from park to 20 inches of Utah fresh (I tour on them).

I like a more symmetrical, center mounted ski in general, which is why I stick with the Jeffrey / Caylor / JMO as my quiver. But the BG is incredible in the deep snow, definitely an awesome powder ski for just about everything, unless you're landing switch a lot I would likely go that way over the Caylor.

In terms of the overlap between the Jeffrey and the BG, there's not much IMO. The Jeffrey handles the deep, but the BG skis it better. The BG handles the groomers well, but IMO you can RAIL the jeffrey if you know how to arc a ski hard in general.

Regarding the differences between the JJ and the Jeffrey - I find the jeffrey better in every capacity. It's more stable, floats better, is easier to control, and is more fun to ski. I realize the last one is a personal preference and I'm prone to being called out for bias, but I would like to think my opinion is pretty objective. I've skied a lot of other brands skis in that category and never found the JJ to be a good ski, in any of its iterations.

Thanks for the replies!

So, in terms of sizing should I go with 181 or 186 Jeffrey, or if I got the Billygoat 186 or 191.

I'm 5'11, 155lbs, like to ski fast and will be skiing them at Telluride for the season.

Longest ski possible. I'm 130lbs and ski the 191 BG. No trouble whatsoever.

Telluride, you say? I'm leaning more towards the BG now. I was kinda on the fence, but Telluride has some stuff you will *probably* not only want a longer ski, but a fatter ski.

Telluride is legit.

Longer if you'll be opening these up at high speeds frequently, which is probably what you are after? For a one ski quiver, gotta go Jeffrey.

186 Jeffrey.

Love mine to death. I've skied them in every condition imaginable. Hardpack, moguls, park, 4+ feet of tahoe snow, deep days in Colorado, not so deep days. Ski is amazing at everything. I have yet to find the speed limit on groomers, and in pow they just float so easy. Mine are mounted -1.7 from center.

I'm 5'10", 180.

I had no idea they navigated pow so well.

I guess the 186cm Jeffrey is for you then.

I was also unaware that the Jeffrey's were so good in deep snow. If this is the case then I think I am going to have to go in that direction.

I have a pair of each and love them both, but for a one ski quiver the jeffrey is definitely the way to go
