so I'm buying a laptop and I've narrowed it down to these two brands. my budget is about 1200, what's the best option? I will use it for college. If i buy one now will it still be usable by senior year?
OP, you are Asian, and yet you don't know about these kinds of things... You've brought shame upon your entire family, the only answer is suicide by disembowelment.
This was my decision a few weeks ago as well. Either brand will do the job, it's just a preference of what models they offer. I went with MSI because they just came out with the GS70, which is what I'm using now. It may be a bit much for you, so if you are interested in MSI I'd say take a look at the GE60. All the Asus models are rock solid too.
Go Asus! I Recently bought the N550-JV and it's the bomb! 1080p matte screen is great, aluminium case feels really good, you get a blu-ray drive and it's super silent. One of the key feature is the truly amazing audio made by bang and olufsen wich sounds loud and clear especially with the subwoofer that comes with it. On performance it's also really good: new Haswell i7 processor, 7200rpm hdd and nvidia gt750 GPU if you're into playing games. On top of that i throwed in a 180gb SSD and putted the hdd in an external case to carry and i suggest you too look into ssd's. The booting is insanely fast (around 5 seconds with it). It also looks damn good IMO. The price is in your range and it's really an excellent and powerful laptop with a decent size and all the specs you would need to play games and do video editing
