Full Tilts out of the park

Just a quick question to anyone who has a pair. How do they perform outside of the park? I want to buy a pair, but if they're horrible for all mountain use then I don't know if it is worth it. Do they flex around when carving? I'm talking #6 flex, looking at TWalls. Cheers

They are not very laterally stiff no so they are not the best for carving hard and charging. Only get a full tilt if it fits you better then any other boot on the market. There are loads of great boots which are just as good if not much better so get something that really fits well rather then a boot which is in fashion at the moment.

Yeah man, I tried on SPK's and Ace of Spades, i have a real high instep so the full tilts were the only good fitting ones. I know people get them just because they are full tilts but I really don't care whats in fashion as long as it skis well.

If you have a high instep make sure you try full tilts with a footbed. They do not come with one so when you add one during fitting it really changes the fit. But for a high instep definitely try atomic. The new overlord boots are great, so much better power transmission then a lot of boots on the market.

I used to use my ft for pacesetting and working nastar because of the comfort vs. my old plug boots. They always skied fine, I wore mine almost everyday I worked on the hill before getting a better skiing comfortable boot. Even wore them to pacesetting trials one year, got some funny looks but I always do in a room full of old racers, skied an 11 that day.

No Atomic boots where I live. The guy didn't mention anything about footbeds - are they necessary?

Yeah a full bed is one of the most inportant aspects of the entire boot fit. It is the only way to ensure your foot is in the optimal postion inside the boot. Really you want a custom and personally I would never recommend a trim to fit. If the person fitting you did not even mention them unfortunately they are not a good boot fitter. May be worth looking for a better shop.

I think you guys are completely forgetting the heritage of Full Tilts, the glorious Raichle Flexon which was the boot of choice for pretty much everybody, a long long time before park was a thing.

Because he's asking if they're any good outside the park - just in case you didn't know, most of the Full Tilts, as far as the shell is concerned, are exactly the same as the Raichle Flexon, which was a very high boot from maybe 15-20 years ago - when park wasn't even something skiers did. Full Tilt just bought the molds, added some new colours and Intuition liners.

Seth Morrison in particular was pretty well-known for his use of Raichles, and after they went out of business he would hoard all the boots he could find for parts to keep his alive. And he's not exactly known as a park skier...

But the point is they were big 15-20 years ago as you say. Think how much skiing has progressed aince then. The skis we use now look nothing like the skis back then. Then it was not about carving so the boots did not have to be laterally very stiff. Now it's all a out lateral stiffness to be able to drive a carve turn. This is where full tilts suffer. Because they are using old tech they can't really drive modern skis as well as newer boots. They work often in te park as a lot of the time people are just hitting rails and smaller jumps so they are not really using a boot in the same way they would be for all mtn use. They certainly can work out of the park but will not be nearly as good as a lot of other boots currently being produced.

While this has its merits, to be honest good enough for SethMo to charge shit in AK = more than good enough for 99.998% of skiers out there.

But think what Seth does. When was the last time you saw him on hard pack snow. Obviously if your in soft powder you again not using the lateral stiffness of the boot. If your talking about using full tilts in a pure powder environment again they will be ok, but the op was asking about all mnt. For carving full tilts are not the best so as an all round boot there are much better options.
