Its certainly a nice idea but looking at the sections for review I'm not sure it will give much usefull advice. In boots for example it has sections for cool or uncool and comfy and uncomfy. Those are both so subjective it's hard to understand why they would ever be included. There is also no useful info like last width, flex rating, volume ect. I may just be missing things as I have only looked on mobile but it does not really seem to useful in its current format.

Yeah, the boots one is a little lacking, but other than boots it's a good system. Also remember that there are written sections included, so other things that aren't on the slide bars can be added.

Also remember, it's still in beta, so these kinds of comments can lead to changes.

Well if its beta then there are a few things that could maybe change. For example it would be useful to know more about the user submitting the review. For example knowing the reviewers weight, age, skiing ability and years skiing would give a better idea of how relevant the review is to you. For example someone 13, 115lbs who has skied for 1 year may rate a binding at highly durable, but obviously for a bigger guy this may not be the case. Same for skis. If a 250lbs guy finds a ski soft a 110lb kid obviously won't. I think to be useful we need just as much info about the person reviewing the product, as we do their opinion on the product itself.

The idea here is to essentially attempt to merge the concept of airy text-based reviews and completely searchable data.

I'd be suspect that if you look at aggregate data across lots of people reviewing gear, comfy/uncomfy and cool/uncool would actually spit out some pretty interesting data points. You could then look at the style or comfort delta on a product, yet in a data focused approach vs. just a text one.

In terms of the fixed data points, the ability to put this stuff is absolutely in there. Its also ready to be filtered by any of the fixed data of each product vs. the flexible subjective sliders. What we need is suggestions for fixed data points of each category of product that you guys think might really work. We can go as deep as you want.

Finally, each product is treated in a sort of wikipedia-style philosophy. So there's one product page, but all the people updating the product contribute to that. This allows us to all work together to create one of the most robust data sets ever collected on ski gear.

This is a really big initiative for us, and though its in beta still we're very committed to making this thing absolutely fucking unbelievable.

I think it'd be really cool to have a review profile like in the old system but on the bottom of all your reviews there's all your stats. And encourage people to be honest about their ability level and years skiing example:

Skiing Ability/Level/Experience (Be honest here, no one cares)>Select from beginner/progressing/average joe/getting there/Am/wallisch

and then maybe underneath that someone could write if they have any special qualifications that would make them more credible ie shop tech

I would think it would be more useful to have the actual tech stats as the part you can search first. Say you want a 100mm ski, with tip rocker but no tail rocker. If you could put in those characteristics and have it bring up a list of matching skis it would be possibly more usefull. If you then had the option to list theft hung results by durability or coolness you could really find a product your looking for much faster.

Same with boots. If you could select your last volume an flex an have it list the suitable boots, then having the results sorted by factors such as comfy coul be much more usefull.

But as I said in my other post, I think you also need much more data from the person reviewing the product. It's all well and good a kid saying a product is durable but I want to know that someone of my ability and size also finds the product durable.

The problem there is that there are very few reviews of new gear because no one used it before. But having a filter to sort by product year would be nice too.

Both of your main points are absolutely within the plans.

As for the who, the idea is that more of your own data as a skier (through your profile) is attached to your reviewer profile. They become more intertwined so you can see stats on the person (that they choose to publish) as well as pictures, videos, threads from them. Done correctly, you'll be able to get more data on the person than is available anywhere else.

As for the searchable by fixed stats - that is all very easy to add. When you're in a product category we can add lots of ways for you to filter and search data. Anything that can be added can be searched or filtered by, whether its objective or subjective data.
