Ridiculous

Hey guys,

Hoping to get some constructive criticism on the most recent piece I've been working on.

The hope is that it will be accepted into the BMFF, then after that will release it on the web.

Little background info on this edit is this spring we did a paddle trip from Vancouver to Victoria. A friend and I were in a double kayak while the other buddy was on a SUP. Super fun trip! Had difficulties documenting it, wasn't able to bring out the camera that often while paddling and the majority of the time it had to be hand-held. The colour is really bad right now, as well the audio is fairly weak. Still pretty stoked on how it is coming together, but let me know what you guys think.

Wow, that was really neat, as you already said, the audio and color could be fine tuned, also the number of times the narrator said "stand-up" got a little annoying to me, not a big deal at all, I just think you could have made it flow better by saying things like "why paddle from..." instead of "why paddle a stand up board", just a tinny personal thing. Honestly it was hard to come up with criticism, The visuals were great and the trip looked really crazy and fun. I think you might just have hit the nail on the head with this one! Now I want to go out and do more.

Loved the cinematography. Really awesome stuff. Narration was decent, but I really didn't like the rhymes. There were also too many rhetorical questions. Some were very effective, but you should be direct at the end -- tell us exactly why you did it. It will be more focused and less vague. Maybe go into more detail about the trip as well, since it seems as though that is the focus of the film.

noisy in a few of the shots, 0:28 especially(bottom left)

0:32 is that stabilization artifacts I see? or is it intentional to go with the music?

1:57 is an awesome shot, but there's noticable warping at the top left.

Wow, I had no idea you could roll them up, I presumed it was just like surfing, might have to check paddleboarding out.

So many insane shots in there, how did you shoot most of the paddleboarding(2:04 especially)? & the climbing too I'm curious about.

Looking over it there appears to be the same "shake/blur" that 0:32 had at various times in the whole clip, are these intentional? they're very subtle.

Other than that it's pretty much flawless IMO.

P.S Am I imagining it or did you dodge the athletes at some parts? I keep thinking I see it but when I play it back I see nothing.

Really good video, you definitely hit the "inspirational" nail on the head

The only thing I noticed was that you used the shots of you getting into victoria (i assume it was victoria) right before you went into the speel about all the other sports, and then you ended on a random shot. I know the random shot was artistically a better shot, but it was long enough that you could probably cut it in half and still end on it, and use the shot of getting into victoria where the first half was, and then put the first half right before the speel

i dunno just a suggestion. Great edit though

So other members on the public Vimeo site can't see the video and they can post it in threads like NS for feedback and critiques before the final draft.

Very nice work Kalum! I'll watch it again when I'm on my laptop but at first glance it looked really good. If you can strengthen the audio of the different clips I think this could easily make it to staff picks

its lookin sick, loved the narrative poem.

just clean up some of the external audio of some of the shots to blend it a bit more and you had some wind sounds you should just cut out in the shot of the people marching.

then a little color correction to bring all of the shots together as far as matching luminance and contrasts and even some slight grading to stylize it all a bit more the same way.

its pretty epic though. can't wait to see the finished version
