PVC Pipe Park Set-Up

Hey I was thinking of incorporating these pipes into next years park at my local ski hill. Not sure how we want to set them up yet however! Comment your ideas and ways to utilize them to make some dope features.

Each pipe has a decent width and will be strong enough to resist the wear and tear of the year.

they look pretty short.. probably best as sections of kinks like a z rail or dfd. mini tube pole jams are pretty fun too

ya they aren't too bad, around 5 feet each. We've had pole jams in the past and they're really fun especially for little progression parks. Also how would you suggest making a DFD or a Z rail?

Linking up PVC rails is good in your backyard but not so good at a resort. Its going to be hard to build something that can withstand the abuse. As a single feature they work good but there is no good way to attach them to make something like a dfd that is legit enough for a resort. A legit dfd would take six of them. 2 for the first down 1 flat and 3 for the second down. I guess if you are creative enough maybe you can think of something. I have welded up some cool features out of scrap steel but I have never figured out how to use scrap pvc in the park.

A way u can connect pvc for a fdf or whatever is cut the pvc to the angle you want then file down the end of the following section to fit in the first part then use some sort of glue or epoxy to keep them from separating. Should work.

Remember that when you cut a pipe at an angle it increases the diameter of the pipe in one direction creating an oval.

To be honest they look way too flimsy to take any abuse, unless you don't have any people in your park apart from yourselves. I broke one of those in half an hour doing sw ups last spring (fair enough, I am 200 pounds) but still, they will be obliterated in no time if your park sees any kind of traffic.

I'll give you a hint... It's PVC, I think he posted the video to show the OP a way to make them more durable i.e. filling them with something (in this case a log) to keep them from breaking from impact.



To whoever said they wouldn't hold up, PVC can be incredibly durable if its the good stuff, all it needs is some support in the middle to keep from breaking (as before-mentioned: logs) places in Europe use them all the time, they make great beginner rails due to the low-consequence of falling on PVC.



Also, I think It would be dope if you just stashed them around the mountain/park area as random little pole jams and jibs. Don't underestimate the fun that can be had

You could put them after a rail as a stairset like alot of people have done with wood but space it out a bit more. Might be death.

when i had a little back yard park i tried to cut just one pvc pipe and had the same problem not realizing it would make an oval so i made a Y rail kinda thing and it lasted about 3 hits

i second every post ever that says theres no good way to make pvc rails (atleast the big ones) into something durable

True, PVC can be durable, but it has to be the really thick stuff, which is very expensive, often the same price as buying a rail of the same length.

It is also true that a lot of places have started using PVC pipes here in Europe, but they are purpose built ones, and therefore extremely durable.

Fact of the matter is that most of the pictured pipes in the OP would not survive the winter if they were put up in a averagely busy park. Strengthening them with wood could be a solution, but it takes a lot of work, and if the pipe is long or has a large diameter, they can be very heavy and unhandy.

This park is on a 200 vertical hill so I think it'll last given the amount of people ussually in the park

Honestly pole jams are about all I can see them for.

If you start building rails out of pvc and wood it get's sketchy. It can be awesome for the backyard, and a cheap and easy alternative to steel, but it doesn't translate to the mountain.

You will have these things getting hit a ridiculous amount more on the daily then you hit your backyard park in a week. Also the abuse things take. When that many people are hitting it, you would be surprised the things people are able to break. There is always the risk of people shaving in, or them getting cracked. At the same time if you have an injury, it really doesn't look that good to have a pvc dfd rail.

Also 5 foot lengths really limit what you would be able to do even if you went for it.

I would say build a potato gun or something and get some steel for the mountain.
