Leaving a job on good terms

Well ive been working at a gas station for past year or so, and I do admit that it isint the best job but the people i work with i really like. I just recently got a job at a ski shop and i dont think i can run two jobs at the same time because of school. how can i go about telling my current boss that i want to quit without hurting any feelings, i still want a good reference from him.

just be straight up with your boss and give him enough notice (its usually 2 weeks or so) to find a replacement for you.

in this life you can't worry about hurting other people's feelings in your quest to get ahead man. I'm not saying stomp on people but this is your one 80 year run at making something happen. If something better comes up, tell him and if he is a decent person he will accept that you are trying to better yourself and you will be on good terms.

Just remember that your boss would kick you to the curb in a skinny if the tables were turned. Tell him you appreciate the opportunity to work for him, give them 2 weeks of course, and dont put up with any bullshit or guilt trips. Its a business decision and this is a free country.

I had kind of the same scenario, had worked at a pizza place for 2 years and got a job offer with better pay/hours in a lab at the university hospital.
Definitely give them 2 weeks notice, if you don't, don't ever try to use them on a resume/work history ever. I pretty much told them that I had a better opportunity and that it was great working there, but I had to go with my better option. Then wrote my two weeks. I still go in a visit sometimes and go into the kitchen to catch up with my old boss. Just be sincere and honest about it.

I put in a 2 weeks notice and just said that I found a job that better fits my school schedule and whatnot.

it will always be an awkward conversation. basically just tell him its time for you to move on, its been a great time working with you guys, but i need to put in my two weeks notice.

short, simple, and respectful. jobs like that expect a high turn over rate with employees and most of the time for them to just stop showing up or quit randomly without a two weeks..

so you doing it that way will definitely be a nice change for your boss.

he hopefully realizes that you won't be working there for the rest of your life so he knows the day you leave is going to come eventually. just take him aside and be straight with him, give two or three weeks notice, and continue to work like you're not leaving.

Tell them the job is seasonal. If they like you they might say "if you need a job come spring time stop by". If they don't offer you your job just stop in at the end of ski season and tell them that you enjoyed working there and want to reapply for the job. Always tell them that you "really want to work here". It's something employers like to hear from an employee
