Climbing and skiing on Mount Hood is most popular most from May to Mid-July, which is after avalanche season but before crevasses and rockfall become serious.
But you can refer to this site for a most recent condition and updates of the mountain.

labor day weekend is usually when they close for two weeks. might want to make sure they will be open before you get there
