Dust Donut

Pretty cool kickstarter. No doubt it was due to succeed. Anyone able to jump in on one of these and test them out? I've heard the glue supplied is crappy, but other than that, the thing works. once you get it down.

I will get the Chinese replica that will arrive soon.

25 bucks is too much for a piece of rubber. No matter how aerospace engineered it is.

For that price I'd want mine borne aloft by sixteen greased, naked eunuchs. That's what I'd want.

Oh, I agree... I just like the idea. I'd go in on it if it were 5$... Aerospace engineering can pertain to anything.

I heard somebody explain there was a negative with this, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was, it was enough to avoid buying it though.

Or I can spend a few dollars on a piece of rubber, stick it on any lens I decide to buy with a metal mount, and not worry about spending Jamie Walter kinda cash on a lens with a red ring on it ;)

But then it's only the camera that's sealed, and even that's not guaranteed.

If it costs that much for a LITTLE more protection, why wouldn't you try it out? and if you're putting it on a 300$ lens, then oh well. I'd rather get water in my 300$ lens than my more expensive weathersealed body.

I don't get the point of this if your lens isn't sealed? like cool you didn't compromise the contact point BETWEEN your lens and camera but it doesnt suddenly make your lens invincible.

Get a $25 rain sleeve or something instead.

Interesting that they just don't make a bunch of different sized rings, I mean I can't imagine that it would be that tough, and then they could appeal to the Nikon, Sony, and whatever else has different sized lens barrel mounts. Maybe I'm missing out on something though

If I stuck this on say, a lens under 150$ like the 24-85 f3.5-f4.5 and/or the 28-105 f3.5-f4.5, or a kit lens, or any cheap 3rd party solution, I don't think I'm going to really care a lot about the lens. Besides, not even all L glass is weather sealed.

This is more to simply protect the camera itself from dust and a little bit of moisture without running around holding a plastic bag.

so instead of attaching the donut to the lens, you attach the donut to the exterior of the camera's mount so any lens you put on seals up.

This makes more sense logically assuming you dont have already sealed lenses.

If it works that way... I would imagine it would be easier to make one for the lens itself, rather than gluing it to your camera mount.
