So while I was skiing at Cardrona a couple weeks ago I got pretty bad shin bang from a backseat landing (even though I have got boots which fit and a custom footbed), which made my shins really sore and it was difficult to keep skiing. I was looking in the shop at Cardrona and saw these things called Shin Shields:

I decided to try them out and holy crap they made an amazing difference - best $40 nz I ever spent! They're £18 including shipping from the shin shield website.
They were extremely good, really reduced the pain in my shins and helped me keep skiing for the rest of the trip.
Now I've been using them everytime I ski and I never get shin bang or sore shins anymore. Really all these things are is a 3mm thick piece of foam yet they still make a big difference.
You just put them under your socks, they have a sort of rough side which hooks onto the socks which keeps them in place then a smooth catch free side which goes up against your shin.
Just thought I would share this product with everyone because its made skiing a lot more enjoyable for me and there are always threads with people asking about shin bang.
Don't expect these to completely remove shin bang though if you land backseat on a big enough jump or your boots don't fit your still going to get sore shins there's nothing you can do about that. Your first priority should be to get boots which fit you properly from a boot fitter and also get a custom footbed! Then if you still have trouble try out the shin shields.
