Stept NO HELMET!?

Recently saw Mutiny and it was unreal. THEY. GO. BIG. And I didn't really think about it until afterwards. WHY THE HELL DON'T THEY WEAR HELMETS!? We all know the consequences for taking that big of a risk. What is the logic behind this? Is there any?

We all want to see you guys throw down, but no one wants to see another head injury.
Throw on a dome bucket. Please.

the best part of all this is that if you all know the benefits of wearing a helmet and the risk of not wearing one, why the fuck do you need the stept crew to wear one to set an example for you? if you are so educated on the situation, you should be comfortable with making your own decisions, regardless of what other people are doing. do you want them to do it so its cooler when you do it?

Eh I don't know about that. It's been 11 years I think and every year they push it more and more so if you get that feeling then wouldn't it have already happened by now? People see these films and act like these guys started hitting stuff like this right away in their lives. They've been perfecting this part of their sport for some time now. As far as urban goes, these guys are pro. They're professionals. Like special forces for military. If you really are that good, then you're that good.

As I've explained. I don't wear a helmet, but am arguing the side for helmets because nobody else is. I'm sorry if that offends you.

I'm saying helmets are important all the time, but if you're doing a high risk aspect of skiing then they are even more important.

Is that really so hard to understand??

Besides being dead easy to understand, it makes perfect sense. You can't even argue that logic.


let's reiterate:

-helmet is good
-helmet while doing something high risk is better



By your logic a smoker isn't allowed to tell someone that smoking is bad.




And fuck, I'm not a 'pro' who's defending Stept for not wearing helmets like so many are. I'm trying to get across the point that helmets are good. I honestly don't see how you're trying to turn me into the bad guy for advocating for the use of helmets.



Again, real class act here. Call someone who's trying to defend helmet use a 'scum bag' and wish on them that they split their head open. Fuck off.

VinnieF, shut up now, you don't even wear a helmet you hypocrite. All points you've now said are void, who the fuck cares, it's their problem if they injure themselves, I don't lecture my friends parents who don't wear helmets and I don't encourage my parents not to either. Who the fuck cares now?

I don't lecture anyone on it either. This is a discussion on a ski website where ideally it stays a debate with people putting good points towards both sides of the argument and refrain from calling people scum bags.

Except I do politely recommend the use of a helmet when I treat someone with a head injury who wasn't wearing one.

The whole point is that you need to have equal arguments for both sides so I'm giving arguments for the side of wearing helmets since it's surprisingly the side people seemed to be against.

The fact that I don't wear a helmet doesn't make my arguments any less worthy. It's entirely irrelevant that I don't wear a helmet. Shouldn't have even mentioned it.



I do this a lot though. I pick a side in a thread, even if I don't agree with it (although I agree helmets are good), and argue for that side until I look like a fool or 'win'. It's great practice.

Fair enough that you use NS as your own little debate club (actually, it's kind of pathetic) but you seem to forget some of the extreme comments you made, such as not caring whether or not someone not wearing a helmet sustains a severe head injury. You may try to pass that of as logical, which in a certain twisted extreme way it may be, but it is also extremely cold hearted, bordering on downright evil, and it makes you, as others have pointed out, a scumbag. You're a joke. No one is arguing against wearing a helmet! The argument is about whether stept or anyone else is obligated to wear a helmet to set an example, and whether it's anyone's right to condemn them for their choice. You've completely twisted the argument, and the other "side's" position. No one here has attempted to persuade people to NOT wear helmets, people have told other people to worry about themselves, that's all.

You don't need to have "equal arguments for both sides", that's total horseshit, and not at all applicable here. This isn't a courtroom, and you sound like a fool. Why on earth would you waste time to argue just to argue and arbitrarily pick a side to argue for even if you don't necessarily believe it? That's pathetic and a pretty good indicator that you probably need a new hobby.

And, it is 100% relevant that you personally don't wear a helmet and chastise others for not doing so.

I don't know if you could simply state that you are more likely to get hurt skateboarding. It all depends what level/kind of stuff you are doing, for either sport. Both have a serious risk for head injuries.

I mean, helmets are basically shunned in skateboarding, and the result is a lot of head injuries, which are no doubt gnarly, but if as many skaters wore helmets as skiers, then the risk of serious, life-threatening injury is pretty slim. (No inverts and far less forces/speed). Sure you'll get busted up, but you won't die.

In skiing, helmets are widely accepted. Many people wear them, and so I would assume that this cuts out a lot of the potential head injuries, whereas skateboarders COULD all but eliminate head injuries, they don't, so I see head injuries as a grey area when comparing the two sports.

Skiers on the other hand, go a lot bigger than skaters and go upside down, sometimes multiple times, which increases the risk of breaking your neck/back. Throw in the natural dangers out there such as avalanches (if you are in the BC) and skiing seems to have a higher chance of death than skateboarding, IMO, assuming that both skaters and skiers are wearing helmets.

I ski with and without a helmet. I feel safer with one always. Like ill send it bigger and try new things with it on. I've gotten a concussion from kneeing myself in the eye/face (cracked goggle lens) sooo they don't prevent all head injuries. But I think everyone should wear them

I am impressed that this thread is still going. I think we would all agree that skiing with a helmet is safer and smarter. We could all agree that eating a salad made of organic food is safer and smarter than eating McDonalds. Some people choose not to be wise for various reasons and that is their perogative (haha NS just tried to correct my spelling on that!). They even choose to do so in the face of clear examples of the repercussions of not learning from others' terrible misfortunes. That is the sad and disturbing part to me - but doesn't give me the right to tell someone what to do. End of thread, please

These jokers live their lives very dangerously. Trust me, I have met them. They are all into very dangerous criminal pursuits. Obviously we know they ski illegally and are ALWAYS in trouble with the law, but they are also drug users too.

I would be less worried about them wearing helmets and more about about wearing protection on their privates!!!! I know for a fact that they have unprotected sex.

Cam Riley can barely ski anymore because he has so much STDs.

A very bad influence for your skiiers. Keep away from the 'sex drugs and rock and roll' that these guys love so much.

God this whole bullshit helmet debate bothers me so much, and this is coming from someone who would feel extremely uncomfortable riding without a helmet and I always have one, if you wanna wear a helmet good for you!

Don't try and force your beliefs on somebody else, as its there risk to take.

To you, not wearing a helmet could seem as unsafe as skiing even with a helmet to somebody else.
