Stept NO HELMET!?

Recently saw Mutiny and it was unreal. THEY. GO. BIG. And I didn't really think about it until afterwards. WHY THE HELL DON'T THEY WEAR HELMETS!? We all know the consequences for taking that big of a risk. What is the logic behind this? Is there any?

We all want to see you guys throw down, but no one wants to see another head injury.
Throw on a dome bucket. Please.

Wear a helmet = less chance of brain damange in a fall/fuckup Dont wear a helmet = increased chance of brain damage in a fall/fuckup Its that simple and the choice is up too you. But expect no sympathy from me if you suffer brain damage or die when not wearing a helmet. I respect stept's skiing ability and progression but not their personal choices. I wear a helmet every single damn time i snap into skis, jump on a longboard, or pedal a bike. Why? Because i have had enough falls where i knew it would of been that much worse without one. Recently my friend ate shit on his longboard without a helmet. He has been in recovery mode for a month or so now and he KNOWS it would of only been a couple of days recovery or maybe none at all if he had one. He imediatly went out and bought a POC and wears it for all things speedy and risky, even pedaling down to the closest burrito stand. He recognised the risk and choose to take action to lessen it. And now my other friends who are pro at longboarding wear helmets more now. They see the risk and they are choosing to lessen it. If stept wants to live with the increased risk of not wearing a helmet they WILL suffer the consiquences. As my cowboy dad says about bull riding ,which is one of the riskiest most dangerous sports out there, "its not about IF you get hurt, its about WHEN you get hurt" The choice is up to you friends. I only hope you can make the right one for you.

That's great and all if they don't want to wear a helmet. It sets a bad example, but that's what's good about this country, is that they have the choice.

BUT...what I don't want to see, is WHEN one of them suffers a life-changing injury, I don't want to see a dozen threads on here about how "tragic" it is and people soliciting donations to help them afford the baby food they have to eat the rest of their lives.

I feel you man. I was sending it last year urbaning the streets, we were getting the illest shots and of course I wasn't wearing a helmet. I hadn't eaten it up until I hit a dfdfdfdf to closeout and i fucked up cracked my skull open and started bleeding a ton. I was then taken to the hospital were I was out cold for a whole day. Two surgeries and 12 stitches later I got out of the hospital. Moral of the story is wear yo damn helmets yo.

since when did newschoolers become a big group of pussy ass lemmings. Its an extreme sport, helmet or not there is always a risk of serious injury or death. Also why is everyone bagging on stept has anyone watched a level one movie in the last decade? Its a personal choice everyone needs to slide off the dildo strapped to the saddle of their high horse. Guys like stept bring a raw aesthetic to skiing that is sorely needed as evidenced by this thread. Or maybe we should all just rock matching saga suits and pocs while we jerk eachother off mid air during our tandem dub 12 mutes.

Not wearing a helmet is kind of like smoking cigarettes. There really isn't a lot of good reasons for doing either of them other than the "cool factor". I'm not personally going to make anyone quit smoking, nor would I make anyone wear a helmet. However, I will judge the shit out of you for being a tool.

When people die/get seriously injured while skiing, it puts such a negative view on skiing in the public eye. I'm not saying that we should care what people think..but it would be best for our sport in general if they wore helmets. But then again I don't really care. Their choice I guess.

Never wore one until I woke up ten minutes after hucking a cork to ski patrol and a long break from skiing mid season. Shit sucked. Ill be rocking one for good. I was back after a week and a half but the doc advised a month minimum. Rock one, if u dont ull get that wake up for sure at some point.

I work in the icu and see traumatic brain injuries all winter long, mostly for people who were wearing helmets. It takes less than we think to vegitize your brain. I'm predicting that one of the stept guys will die in the next year or two.

I started to feel that way last year, and this year solidified that through. It will be tragic. I got an eery feeling during Mutiny that shit is going to go wrong soon. Kind of stressed me out during the movie to be honest.

Mutiny - 'An open rebellion against the proper authorities esp. soldiers or sailors against their officers'

It kind of makes sense now, Stept is in a way rebelling against the norm or 'safe way' of skiing.

They're simply not giving a fuck. Either for respect or just to put themselves at a different level.... well they already are at a different level, but throwing down like that and choosing not to wear a helmet is in a way committing mutiny. Fitting name really.

If a park skier gets a serious head injury that would have been totally preventable had he been wearing a helmet yet he wasn't wearing a helmet knowing full well the risks involved by not wearing one, my sympathy level is automatically lessened. Sucks dude, but you knew better. Next time wear a helmet.


If you get an STD from having unprotected sex with a stranger, why should I give you any sympathy? You were an idiot for not wrapping up.


Both are comparable by being high risk aspects of the respective activities. You get that STD from your wife of 20 years cause she cheated on you? Tons of sympathy. You get that head injury from casually skiing groomers or some mellow BC? Tons of sympathy.

Thats cool of you. Considering that you cant measure that in any way. Some falls dont matter if you have a helmet or not your gonna get really hurt.

I always ski with a helmet. Why? Because I know skiing is risky. Key word is "skiing". I know with, or with out a helmet skiing is risky and I can get hurt.

See with out STDs or pregnancy sex isn't risky. However skiing is always risky with a helmet or not.

You can get killed 1,000 different ways other then hitting your head. You fall 20 feet to flat and compress your spine, or you get towed up a rail and then lacerate your liver. Endless things can happen that will seriously hurt you and not to mention the size of shit they do.

Helmet or not your a cold fucker, and that makes it hard for you a make a stable judgment call when other people argue with you.

Soon as you clip your skis on your at risk of getting hurt.

You get rear ended and are sent into the windshield head first and get a serious head injury but would have been 100% OK beside a couple bruises had you been wearing your seat belt.

Maybe it was convoluted the way I said it, so I'll explain this clearly.


If someone gets hurt in a high-risk activity and are hurt entirely due to not using a piece of safety equipment knowing full well the risks involved in not using that particular piece of safety equipment the I will have less sympathy for them than someone getting the same injury from not wearing that specific piece of safety equipment in an activity that is not considered high risk.

Fill in with whatever examples you want. Helmets in skiing, seat belts with driving, condoms with sex, a flack jacket/bulletproof vest in a firefight.


The only difference with skiing is it is not a blanket statement for all skiers since where skiing some mellow BC for one skier may be a nice relaxing afternoon, it may be a test on the skill level of another making it far more risky for them due to the increased possibility of crashing.

But when you're pushing the limits of your skill in the most injury prone aspect of the sport and are not wearing a helmet, you are asking for a head injury.

And like was said, the person who says 'well he should have been wearing a helmet' when one of the Stept guys gets a preventable head injury is going to be called an ignorant and disrespectful piece of shit.

You missed some posts where I explained that I am arguing the side of helmet usage because not enough people are on here.

Personally I don't wear a helmet unless mandatory/I'm doing something that I really really should be wearing a helmet and I respect everyone's right not to wear a helmet.

I have, however, explored most reasons for Stept to wear a helmet I think. Someone needs to.
