I work at enterprise car rentals, and my boss wants to know what kind of cars specifically skiers/snowboarders would be interested in renting for trips up to the hill. I figured you guys would be a great source to ask for ideas and opinions. Serious answers get +k

Stop reading your Audi's brochure.

Many cars have had AWD long before Audi and Audi doesn't have the best.

subaru, toyota rav 4 , ford explorer, Jeep, toyota fj cruiser, maybe throw in a ski rack for like an extra 10 bucks. eventually youll earn the money you spent on them back

i may of stated that wrong and i realize they didn't literally invent it but they where the first to put power to an awd system and prove it with rally racing. look up the ur quattro.

The Ur-Quattro wasn't actually such a revolution as people make it seem. It wasn't even the first 4wd car by many years. It was just the first when rules changed which allowed 4wd cars to enter again.

It was beaten in a championship by the RWD Lancia 037 and then twice by the AWD Peugot 205 Turbo 16 E2 And when the Lancia Delta Integrale came along for it's six back to back victories, Audi was nowhere.

There is no true best AWD system, most are very different and specialized. And if I had to pick best all-round it still wouldn't be Audi it would be the new system in the new Range Rover Sport (which is finally worthy of the badge.)

First off, AWD, 4X4, traction control, etc. doesn't mean shit if the car doesn't have good snow tires, and that's what I find as the biggest piss off about rental cars. They'll send you off in a Suburban with some bullshit "all season" tires with 1 mm of tread and expect that to be sufficient to drive up I-70 in a blizzard. If rental car companies (and Mr. Enterprise, I sincerely hope you're reading this) would equip cars with proper WINTER TIRES, they would find many more of them coming back in one piece.

That said, AWD is still a huge advantage, and I wouldn't trade my Audi for anything in the world. The problem is that you'd be really hard pressed to rent an Audi or even a Subaru from any company, and very few American brands, which comprise the majority of the rental fleet, offer any sort of AWD vehicles. Just lately though, Ford has begun to introduce AWD versions of its Fusion and Taurus sedans, which would be a great option to see entering the rental fleet.

Toyota 4runners, VW Touareg, Subarus, and tahoes, pretty much anything that can drive through snow well- audis can do that too but just a reasonable priced car to rent that can haul throw any snow storm
