Ski car

I work at enterprise car rentals, and my boss wants to know what kind of cars specifically skiers/snowboarders would be interested in renting for trips up to the hill. I figured you guys would be a great source to ask for ideas and opinions. Serious answers get +k

either AWD hatchbacks (subaru outback, audi a6) or big honking motherfuckers that will never loose grip (Ford explorer, GMC Denali). ski cars need to be stable in slick conditions, be able to plow through deep snow, have plenty of room for equipment / friends, and have some horsepower to get up steep hills.

Anything with awd...or else its dangerous to get up and over passes in snowy conditions. My a4 avant is the perfect ski car...anything audi or sudaru for sure will do the trick.

impreza wagon or a forrester for subies, a ford escape or explorer, a toyota 4runner. Jeep cherokee or a jeep wrangler. oh and possibly a ford flex if you have a big group. nissan pathfinder?

Subaru's have the best awd on the market. Volvos and VW/Audi are great but don't offer sticks on their awd models in the usa so they can suck it

almost any subaru, they run forever (one of my friends has 300k+ miles and runs great) and get good mileage. i have a honda element and that works pretty well too.

We take our Subaru Outback (2012) everywhere, including skiing, and it's perfect for groups of 4, it's spacious, has great room in back, and you can obviously add a roof rack to hold stuff you can't fit in the trunk, but I'm sure you can fit a pair of skis or two back there. Maybe not, I haven't tried. It's AWD and really quiet on the road, it's nice as an all around car.

the old 850s were sick. in canada you could get one with a 5 speed that was turboed with awd. Dont know if id bother with one of the new ones though

Audi and subaru use very similar awd drive systems. without getting into technical details audi's quattro system provides even power to each wheel with extra power when it slips 25/25/25/25. where subaru has a couple awd drive options the one used on wrx's/sti's uses a center diff to split the power evenly to the front and back wheels 50/50. Audi practicaly invented awd and is the front runner in awd drive systems and quattro is by far the most complex and best awd system on the market. it is hard to find volvos in 5spd and there are less audis on the road then subaru they made almost all the quattro models in 5spd they are just harder to find. i have an avant a4 5spd that i love and will never sell.

Generally, if you're an avid skier or snowboarder you have a vehicle equipped with AWD or 4WD already.

For the most part the "weekenders" will just carry chains.

If I had to pick I'd pick Subaru. Mainly because of build quality to cost ratio. Many European cars are notorious for having electrical problems after about 100k.

It doesn't have to be a high end, expensive, or even AWD car to get through the snow. I would say it's mostly about the tires you put on it. Ex. Studded snow tires vs summer tires (extreme ends of the spectrum).
