T4i Discontinued? Why?

I'm looking into buying a DSLR and I was looking online for a T4i and noticed they were discontinued and hard, but not impossible to find.

So does anyone know why the T4i was discontinued? And is it worth trying to hunt one down or what?

It was likely discontinued so that people will buy the newer and more expensive t5i. There have been some very minimal changes to the line every year, and the average consumer wouldn't be able to tell the difference, so they discontinue it to push the new one. You can still probably find new ones, and it is nothing to worry about. Also, any reason you are set on the t4i?

But the t3i isn't. You can still get the t3i basically anywhere

The 700D is virtually the same as the 650D. Who in their right mind would buy the 700D at the new camera price premium when you can get the almost same 650D at the 1 year old model discounted price?

It makes sense from a business standpoint that they are keeping the 600D and let something else go that's more redundant - in this case the 650D. The 600D has some distinct differences that warrant a lower price point without jeopardizing the 700D sales.

I'm not really set on the t4i. I just don't know if the continuous autofocus in video mode on the t4i is worth the extra money over the t3i. Anyone have an opinion on this?

It's not worth it at all. Total gimmick honestly. The average consumer eats "features" like that up.

Even in the best situations, contrast detect autofocus has to hunt, by its nature. It needs to focus beyond and then snap back, and this occurs every time focus needs to be set/changed. If something is moving, it will do this continuously, and while it can be good (I have only tried it on the gh2), it isn't something that you would want to rely on for fast action. Continuing off of that, if it is something you can't rely on, then you likely won't use it (for risk of ruining the shot), it would therefore essentially be a gimmick.
