Skiing after closing

I was wondering if you can ski after the 3:30 pm lift close time by hiking. Like if I was already just hiking the park can I just stay up there as long as I want?

^Which may be rather fast because park crews (at least around here) like to fix the lips and stuff before everything freezes overnight.

Probably not. Patrol runs sweeps at the end of every day to make sure everyone is off the mountain to enable the groomers, etc to start their shift for the night- if you were to get hurt after closing the resort could still be liable depending on state law, which is obviously something they don't want.

At least in Utah some the resorts are cool with letting people hike pre-season or even during normal operational hours, but that's about it.

had to go to skier safety awareness class cause me and a homie wanted a few extra laps through A51. get caught again and we get our passes clipped

Most ski hills will have there groomer ready to go right after closing, so unless you want to piss the groomer off, I wouldn't go out after closing.

We were building I kicker in some trees one day....lost track of time and came down at like 6:30....just waved at the patroller and left. Nobody seemed to care.

might work on small mountain. but me and my friend tried to hike a rail in park city right outside the marriot and they threatened to call the police because it was trespassing. they also almost clipped our 3 day tickets

Did it multiple times this spring once sunday river started closing at 4. Got kicked out once, was told that if i get hurt that no patroller will help me but i can stay as long as I want once, and no one said anything to my friends and I the third time... depends on the mountain I guess

10 pm on the east coast is where it's at. But most places will just ask you to leave when closing. I'm sure they would get pissed if you tried to sneak up there to hike a feature and doesn't really seem worth it at that point.

I always try to go for the last lift. Then, I smoke a few dewbs and relax until I decide its time to go.

My moauntain closes at 12 am and another one near me in columbus closes at 2 am so that is unneeded haha

In the park or on a run, no. Patrol or park crew will want you to leave. You can hole up in a smoke shack for a while and ski down later though. It's fun ski down when there's no one else on the mountain.

There were a few times in revelstoke when we took last chair and hit slack country, and came back just before/after dark. The ski patrol there is pretty lax and they just waved and asked how the day was. I don't think a lot of resorts are like that though. If they see you on the runs they usually tell you what time it is and tell you to ski down to the bottom because theyre closed.

Tried doing this in verbier in january and patrol came and checked in case someone was hurt but was cool about it otherwise. Then the park crew and groomer came and kicked us out as they wanted to do shaping. Then got a tow along a flat xc track from one of the resort managers on his snowmobile.

nothing pisses me off more than getting assigned to the park for sweep and there's three 13 years olds hiking a fucking flat box and then they refuse to leave
