University of washington a good school thats close to skiing?
Hey NS, So college is coming around the corner and im looking at places to shred but also have a good business school. I live in CO and CU is close but i am fortunate enough to get to go out of state if i want. Is university of washington close to resorts such as baker, crystal, stevens pass?
Thanks guys! I dont mind the rain too much to be honest. Is it close to whistler by any chance? I mean i guess that depends on how long it takes to cross the border
Not that close really. You might get up there a handful of times. If whistler is your goal you'd be better off going to UBC, keep in mind international tuition in Canada is comparable to out of state tuition for many. UBC and UofW are also very comparable in terms of academic rating.
Baker is more like 2.5+. It takes an hour and a half just to get to Bellingham.
I go to UW, and I'm planning to get a pass to both Snocompton and Stevens. Snocompton is super close and has the jib game on lock, but Stevens gets absolutely shit on after cold fronts and has better jumps.
Probably not going to be worth leaving colorado for tbh. Plus, now that im out of school, i just think youve gotta be out of your mind to pay out of state rates. Save the cash and buy some cool shit instead. Its just such a waste imo
That actually sounds like a dope set up. Use Snocompton for your jibbing and park, and then go to stevens if it gets dumped on. How often do you get up there being a student durin the year?
Eh I go to Stevens to ski park, too, since their jump line is up earlier, is bigger and better, and they're steadily improving the jib game. Plus I have an established squad of younger homies there.
I only skied Stevens last year, and I got up one or two days a week generally. I got a couple ill midweek days when I finished finals on Monday and just had nothing but storms and free time. Pretty much did the weekend warrior thing, though, since I have class every day of the week for pre-engineering. Plus it was hard for me to find people to go with all the time. Most serious skiers go to Snocompton. I should get more days this year with afternoons and nights being a real option at Snocompton plus a way bigger ride pool. The college pass for both is $300 when you buy early, so it's like ~$600 total. I'm pretty sure it's gonna be very worth it.
Ah man that sounds so sick. Getting up one or two days a week is what i am looking for in college! and yeah 600 for both passes isn't terrible. My friend may be going to UW too and is a huge skier but maybe won't go. If I go without him, is it easy to find people on the campus who like go up and ski?
Me haha. But yeah there are always gonna be people. It draws a lot from Seattle which has a pretty solid freeskiing community so I don't see it ever going away. The trick is finding them among the 45k others. There isn't really an organization that has "core" people in it. Just the ski school and the snowboard team which is really just a ride pool for both skiers and boarders. A couple of my homies may be trying to change that though...
It's honestly not the coolest place to go for skiing, and it doesn't have a great party scene either. If you go, go for the academics.
Okay sick! yeah i mean im not just going there to ski, but i wanna go a d1 school with skiing available! It sounds pretty easy to find people! The party scene isn't big? I mean can you stil find parties to go to on the weekends at least?
keep in mind the highway to stevens is a deathtrap...if you think you can drive in the snow/or cocky at all there is a good chance you will die...more people die driving to and from stevens than at the ski area
snocompton you have a 3 lane+ highway w/ media alll the way from seattle to the liftline
went on a trip this spring to visite seattle and vancouver. all i can say is ...... North Cascades national park is absolutely insane !!!!!!!!!!!!!! do you guys ski in the north cascades national park during winter. i know roads are close but can you go there with a skidoo???
if you do come to washington make sure to check out summit west at snoqualmie!!!! they are so sick there, plus they have steeps that you fall off of if stop.
as far as baker goes, watch out!! it is the soggiest place on earth, and theyre always trying to blow you up with dynamite. I always have to go in after first chair to change my tall tees. fuck baker man, it costs so much! Ive gone through my whole closet of tall tees in a week at baker...and i have a lot of tall tees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! llike 51 or 52 for reference.
People cop sarcastic attitude because washington ski areas have been completely overrun by the hoards of people that have moved to this state in the last 20 years and for a lot of reasons expansion has not kept up. Its traffic jams, massive lift lines and a whole bunch of idiots in the way we didnt have to put up with before. Bottom line is the "seattle freeze" is more often than not "i hate you for moving here and ruining my awesome state..."
Incoming freshman here. I decided to dorm this year, rather than rushing, just to get the lay of the land when it comes to academics. From what I've heard, the ski scene outside the greek system is pretty dead. Is it relatively easy to link up with people to ride with, or is it all pretty exclusive to frats? Planning on getting most of my days in at Alpental/Central, aside from a couple days at Stevens.
this is a true statement. all the mountains go to costco and get pallets of instant potatoes and sprinkle them all over the runs. then when it rains (364 days a year) it looks like snow, but really it's just mashed potatoes
