To the first paragraph, I totally agree and I would add that if you're going to spend significant time interviewing someone, adding their narration over footage, etc. they should be inherently "interesting" themselves. Not everyone is charismatic, articulate, or whatever enough to carry it. Plenty of people have really interesting, unique experiences and yet aren't at all good at conveying those things to someone else. Being honest about those sorts of things goes a long way to the finished product.
Basically, even if a certain trip/rail/feature was extraordinary in some way, I don't want to hear someone talk about it if they're a shitty storyteller. Unless of course that's the joke, or something.
