Making Fun of Religion, Double Standards?

So, why is it okay to make fun of christians? But when someone pokes fun at muslims, they are suddenly shunned? Personally, I'm not religious, but i think that this double standard has gotten out of control, and i think it is ridiculous. What are your thoughts on this?

Obviously, but the point is a man who makes fun of all religions, had to apologize for a tweet about muslims (which had a lot of truth to it), and If the tweet had been making fun of christianity he would have been fine, and most likely he would have been praised for it.

I'm sure you would've loved it if i had "link'd" CNN....

al jazeera is pretty good, only watched it once and it said something about "news for the 99%".

I just want an unbiased investigative journalist oriented news thing, which basically what it is but not just for a target group just for everybody. I'm sure there are some 1%ers that aren't corrupt fucked up people and innovated their way there.. possibly

The more I think about life it just seems so much more, something ...

Not to sound racist..but anything related to "white" people is perfectly ok to make fun of. The INSTANT a white person starts ripping on another religeon, minority, race, etc, they are the racist and are instantly the bad guy.

Case in point: at my school there is a black as well as asian student union. What if I went out and made a white student union? I would instantly get called a racst, etc.

Its called reverse racism and its happening today. Really pisses me off

if white people had been treated and persecuted the way blacks were from the 1500's til the 1960's, trust me, it wouldn't be okay to make fun of them, either. If you're really going to complain about "reverse racism," you need to shut the fuck up.

I didn't do anything to the blacks of 1500 to 1960 so why should the ones alive now get to be racist back towards white people now?

cortes came and killed a ton of aztecs, doesn't mean the ones left or their descendents can go pillage other people

They aren't actually racist towards white people. Having a black student union doesn't make them racist towards white people. White people in america, on the other hand, ARE still racist towards blacks, asians, pretty much everyone. What's the worst thing, racially, that has ever happened to you or any white person you know? Have you ever felt inferior or ashamed of yourself because you are white?

Complaining about reverse racism is ridiculous because blacks in America still get persecuted all the time and until this stops it's absurd for white people to be like "this is so unfair, chris rock/dave chapelle said something mean about white people on tv and nobody called him a racist, if i said that about black people i'd get called a racist. Being white sucks!"

No, it's called creating a feeling of unity among those that are the minority. Seeing as how you seem like a privileged little bitch, you don't need such a group but someone who has to attend school with kids like you that get pissed off at such stupid shit in order to feel "white oppression", they may need a club to hang with other people THAT ARE NOT YOU.

I dont get people who get butthurt at jokes anyway... They are jokes and supposed to be funny. For me there are no limits of what to make jokes about really. At least not on religion and stuff like that...

That's not the actual annoying part about 'reverse racism' (actually called 'positive' racism). What is annoying is that major businesses set diversity targets for their divisions, so a certain percentage have to be black, Muslim etc... There is never a target for white people either. This means that an employer could have three white guys who would be good for the advertised job and a black guy who's complete shit at the job, but employ the black guy to meet the target.

This is a valid point. As for reverse racism, it pisses me off too, not so much because its racist, but more because many people don't see it as racism. It would seem that something is only racist, when the beneficiaries are white, that kind of thinking in itself is fucking racism.

Personally i think that there really is not a double standard at all, but in fact it is a single standard because, all monotheistic religions fall under the same belief in a single God and prophets,messiahs,apostles and so on.But to answer your question yes in fact, it is wrong that white commonly Christen people of america and into Europe, use cultural prejudices to generalize an evil or malicious intent by the Muslim/middle eastern people. This is fairly ironic considering that Christen and Muslim beliefs are nearly identical. Muslim and people of Middle Eastern decent have been view as terrorists or evil because of the cultural prejudices. This problem cant be solved as it is the same problem that has occurred for thousands of years

Jews get made fun of and all that good stuff cause we can take it. Resilient after 2000 years? Never wiped out after many have tried. I can't speak for the others who get made fun of, but we Jews just take it in stride.

I think it definitely speaks to their resilience as well. Other religions just don't have the sense of humor of jewish people. I think others should be able to take it in stride as well, unfortunately even though muslims see themselves as better than everyone else, they still cant take a joke. For instance, if i were to say the pope rapes children people would probably chuckle, but if were to post a picture as mohammed on here, i would most likely get banned. Just like how south park took down the super best friends episode from season 5 because it had a image of mohammed, where in reality they were making fun of all major religions at once equally.

And islamic scripture says it's not okay to depict muhammad, if the bible said it wasn't okay to depict jesus, i'm sure christians would make just as big a deal out of it...

So, assuming a already diverse workforce in a company, if a more highly qualified white person doesn't get a job because a less qualified black person gets it, that's not racist? But if a more highly qualified black person doesn't get a job because a less qualified white person gets it, it is racist? Racism doesn't just work one way like that...

K-bomb was talking about a company hiring blacks over whites in order to diversify a workplace. That's not racist.

You are talking about an already diversified workplace in which hiring decisions begin to be made based on race over qualifications. That is racist.

You don't have to follow their guidelines, but it doesn't mean you can sit there and say it is unfair for people to get offended when you do something that many consider offensive.

And it's not a double standard. Islamic scripture considers it wrong to depict Muhammad; there's nothing in Christian scripture that says you can't make priest jokes.

Maybe jokes shouldn't be poked at anyone who lives their life according to a religion. As long as they are still open to other ideas and religion, aren't hurting anyone in their practices, and give back at the same time, why make fun of them for living their lives? The double standard is a total reality, but people look at it still bigoted. Just because black people "can say" the N-word and stuff shouldn't make it ok for everyone to say, NO ONE SHOULD SAY IT. Why would someone wish to bring up a word, much less use it as a label for someone that you know, that was used in such a derogatory manner towards slaves and African Americans. Its fucking stupid. The only true proof of detrimental racism that I see is when it comes to black in prison. I'm working with this guy from Wyoming and he was talking about how they are always busting hispanics with California plates smuggling weed. And you know the reason they get caught is because of racial profiling and illegal searches and seisures. It's not like white people don't smuggle weed. He says he doesn't give a shit what they have to do to catch the pieces of shit even if it racial profiling...

That's my only issue. There's a reason why so many blacks are in prison, it's not like they commit any more crimes than whites but they DO get profiled.

But other than that, I think the racism thing is way overplayed. There's a reason why so many african americans say Bill Cosby isn't black because he sees through the bullshit and how a lot of the afroamerican community keeps telling themselves they can't suceed so they just blame the white man...

how we got from religion to racism, idk.

It's because a lot of muslims think that their religion is the greatest. Look at how many Christians blow up in crowded areas, then look at how many muslims do. They think their religion is so fucking bomb (pun intended) that they're willing to kill themselves for it. And they send death threats to those who disagree with them. They're like the WBC, but there's more of them, they're all hairy, and they smell bad. And I'm not apologizing for that.

I just hate it when non religious people rip on religious people for all being idiots. I know that you may think that there is no possibility of a God, and that's ok, but it's not that far out for somebody else to believe in one. If you say that all religious people are intolerant, then you are being quite prejudiced as well. I get along with everybody (and yes I'm religious) until it becomes a you're an idiot thing. I have a reason for everything I believe and that's what matters.

I agree 100%. Even though I'm not religious and often find a bunch of logical flaws with any religion, I think that the ability to believe in something higher than human power can really make people better (though I don't think it's the only way).

Also that video a few posts above is so hypocritical. He says "nobody knows," but he seems very overconfident in his beliefs. He says "these roads could lead someplace terrible," but if nobody knows, couldn't they also lead someplace amazing?

i don't disagree about how religion could help people. a good buddy of mine is a compulsive drinker and could not stop doing cocaine and smoking spliff bowls for the life of him while he was on probation (which he never finished). as soon as he brought jesus into his life, he stopped his ridiculous drug and drinking habits. you're right. some people really need that shit to step back in line, because they sure as hell cannot do it on their own. I'm not against religion when it works to benefit people in that way.

But when I read the news to find out that the Vatican has been trafficking child sex slaves for priests (FOR YEARS), I see the negative road that religion can take people to. I think we can all agree that we don't need Old wrinkly kidfuckers doing silly rituals standing on a pedestal to preach us how to live our lives. At this point in time it's pretty easy to figure out that being good and kind to people, taking care of our bodies, and meditating can benefit us all without having to read it from a 5000 year old book written on animal skins in languages nobody can understand.

with that said, some of my best friends are religious and i love those fuckers to death. i don't feel the need to start stupid conflicts over what we believe happens after death because nobody fucking knows. it could be a massive DMT trip or it could also be the pearly gates of heaven. i've never died before so i couldn't tell you.

It's only when any extremist does some messed up shit "in the name of their deity/god etc" that people start to become angry at religions, and rightfully so.

Usually these people do these things for ulterior reasons and then hide behind their religion as a reason for doing it. (The Crusades, etc.) That is not okay.
