Has anyone who sucks been to windells ect.?

I know they say they have beginner type classes but have any of you mediocre skiiers actually taken that up? (talking like no cork/ starting to learn to cork level) Obviously it's gotta be pretty intimidating anyways.

most of the kids ages 12-15 are trying to cork 7 but cant put down a half decent three sixty or rail slide.

also there are always 5 or 6 kids that race all their life and then bought skis at the end of the season and cant even hit the small jump line.

but if you're cool and likeable its not intimidating at all. i stayed in road house and their was this one guy that started free skiing like the last two weeks the season and he was shredding with the rest of the guys in the roadhouse... just not quite as hard.

A lot of people go to camps at lower levels. It's a camp to learn and increase your skill level. Being ashamed and avoiding it because you don't think you are good enough to go just means you're never going to get better.

And let's really think about it... girls go to this camp. If they were on the verge of corks... they would probably be teaching at these camps.

I've seen kids in camp at woodward learning to hit their first rails. When they say they have beginner classes, they aren't kidding. It's a learning environment, not a judgemental/who can throw the biggest trick environment. The couches are used to working with every level. They typically split kids into skill level groups. Every group is going to have a most skilled/least skilled student, but the least skilled student usually has the most room for improvement and just as much of an opportunity to get something out of the camp.

solid responses from you two, awesome to know. It's just these session edits make it seems more like its just a pro get together, but its good to know there are people who suck, I may consider going to an adult camp more seriously now.

It really doesn't matter if you suck, I just got back and i learned a lot, if your not that good, thats fine you will be skiing with people your skill, people don't early care if your good or bad, if you nice and cool to people it won't matter.

Just be chill, ski with your skis and not your mouth and you'll have a fun time, if you're cool nobody cares how good you are, and you'll have such a fun time

my first year apart from myself not going 'hard' like i couldve there were two friends in my cabin both good kids but from what i saw they werent that good at all. theyve gotten better im pretty sure but they both had bat mitzvah money. i think those camps can be intimidating and take time to get used to. my 1st year i hardly 3'd a jump but my next year i spun jumps a lot more. it helps having friends to push you. i just go there because its fun as fuck

true, to future campers dont be the obnoxious kids wandering around the hill and camp asking every pro for their autograph, just connect with them or just say hi if your annoying youll be hated

Whole point of camp is to learn. All the camps are fantastic at ensuring that no matter what ability level you are, you can learn a ton of shit.

Hell, first year I went to camp back in '99 I fucking SUCKED. I could barely do a 3. I was born into the freestyle / newschool world through summercamps.

Fuck the haters man, new blood in the sport is dope - and camps are the perfect place to do it.

Do it. I went to adult camp at winells and it was a blast. There's a wide range of skill levels, the vids just show the better skiers/features bc it's more fun to watch.

About 70% of the campers at windells would be classified as beginning park riders. They can slide the rails, and 360, maybe a 5 and maybe a flip. Do not be intimidated by the videos. Those are jump meant to hype you up and show you whats possible with their facilities if you have the motivation. In all honesty there are probably no more than 6 to 12 kids a session who could be classified as "good". Meaning they can do clean 7s and above on the bigger features. A fair amount of the campers don't even ride the entire time. They want to ski a bit then hang out and watch their coaches and/or head back down to Windells campus. If you show up and push yourself as hard as you can and show interest the coaches and everyone at camp will be really hyped on you and you will have the best time.

When i worked at windells i had groups with kids that could hardly ski. So yeah 3/4 of kids come to camp suck at skiing but if they want to get better they can. its all about wanting to get better and not being a spoiled rich kid that goes back to camp at 12:30 every day. thats when coaching turns into baby sitting and that happens too much.

It's good to hear all this, I probably should have asked this like 3 years ago. Its good to hear its chill there cause like, its not chill at all on this site as we all well know, and the same people bad mouthing everyone via the internet are the same people that are on the mountain. Yes internet anonymity and one rotten apple spoiling the bunch and yada yada, but you get my point.

I'll probably be hitting it up next summer.

I went to COC 3 years ago when I was 13 and had never slid a rail. There were a lot of brand new skiers there and I never felt embarrassed or hated on even by the really good kids, and I was really happy to meet all the pros I had heard of (at that point only Tom Wallisch and Nick Martini haha). I went up as early as could and didn't leave until the coaches made me, and I left able to 5 and slide a rail. It was a really positive experience being exposed to all of the skiing media and pros and I don't see why you wouldn't have the same experience as long as you don't act spoiled or windells is full of dicks.

Wait wait wait wait, people stop skiing early while they're being coached by crazy good skiers? What sort of idiocy is this? And tell me they actually can ski till like 6 or something.

Just go and have fun. I don't see why you need to be throwing dubs to go to camp.

I don't know why so many people go down so early, the best part of the day is the 2:00 to 3:00 jump sessions where you can just lap the rope tow all day and shred with the pros. That camp is the best dude

Man i ski all day from opening to closing even if there's no other skiers there. But how could someone go in early when they could ski with the real andy parry?! Thats crazy

I went and I was (am) pretty new to park. Sure, there's plenty of kids who absolutely kill it, and a few of them are probably gonna be dicks. But there is also a huge number of mediocre/beginning park skiers that just wanna have a good time, learn and progress. As long as you don't care too much about looking dumb trying to learn simple tricks in front of your favorite pros, and 13 year olds who can double, you'll be fine. I had an incredible week, fit in fine and learned a ton. Just don't be intimidated

Yo this is BMOS, Im a ski coach at Windell's camp and we would love to have you out for any of the sessions. We got a Holiday camp in the winter, Spring break camps and then of course the summer. As an adult you get a different experience then the kids during the summer. Usually your grouped with other adults at your level so your not with 12 year olds and you get the opportunity to travel into Portland to get a real feel for Oregon. We don't ever hate on anyone for their skill level. We just hope that you come to camp with a good attitude and motivation to learn (or that you at least tell us at the beginning that your just here for vacation, then its all about just having a good time.)

Our session videos are mainly made up of the coaches and visiting pros throwing down to highlight the extreme amount of talent that you can see everyday on hill and who you can get the opportunity to learn from (the best).

So most def come through and send me a message if you have any other questions, im super down to answer them.

For everyone bitching about kids not staying up there all day, shut up. Skiing at hood everyday for a week straight is brutal compared to a week of normal winter shred. It gets fucking hot up there, coupled with the fact that most of the kids that go haven't used skiing muscles in months. Add in the altitude and the fact that younger kids usually don't hydrate properly and it makes a but more sense.

This is not to say that i agree with kids leaving at noon. But most of you seem to jump to the conclusion that skiing at hood for a week straight takes nothing out of you and that stopping early is just absurd.

I went to camp and I admit i'm not good But I didn't act like I could cork7 and back flip and shit and not do it I did what i could stay as chill and nice to people as I could and I progressed. On the other hand there was a kid in my group with panda pole tom walish skis and boots $150 oakley and bought saga pants off a kid that were two sizes two big and had to buy suspenders he went around claiming he could do everything I said above and he couldn't get the balls to slide the flat box or three 12 year old rich kids everyone

Except most of the issues you mentioned are self-induced and easily correctable. How difficult is it to get yourself in decent cardio/leg endurance shape for a few weeks before you go to camp and remember to drink water? Not doing that is just dumb.

I'm not saying kids need to ski non stop all day up there. thats ridiculous, no one does that. But I can tell you the kids who go down at noon barely ski at all and just sit around waiting until they're allowed to leave. There are definitely a lot of kids who just go to Windells for summer camp that has skiing as an activity.

i lived there for years in a row working 40 hours a week and skiing every single day. and that includes hiking after they stop the lifts at 2. its not that hard.
