It's definitely true. I'm from Seattle and have several friends that worked there. Pretty Odd that they just closed the doors after making $27 million dollars in revenue last year.
They Executives haven't even reached out tot the employee's to let them know what happened. It's Very SHADY!
Doesn't surprise me. They were dumping a lot of money into marketing and just seemed to be spinning wheels compared to GoPro. It makes sense, I've always found GoPro the more appealing of the two and their marketing campaigns have been tremendously better than Countour's.
Even if gopro is better/more appealing they need competition as an incentive to keep making better and better shit. I won't buy another gopro until they make a lower profile camera that doesn't stick out as much. They're too easy to lose in the trees. I've personally lost 2.
Contour was literally the only rival gopro had, surpassing the gopro in multiple ways, none of the others were doing anything, gopro has literally no competition now
Of Course this is going to turn into a Contour Hate thread, but I really don't think the GoPro is a superior product. They just have superior marketing.
This is basic business skills, revenue doesn't mean anything if you don't know what the costs are for the company. if it was 27 mil in net income, thats a different story.
Contours weren't perfect either guys. Most people don't care what you look like in the lift line cam wise if it works. Those aren't the lines I usually film. I had two friends both lose their contours when the mount broke. Obviously they can't make it impossible not to lose, but they weren't as good as people say they were. Go pros are a bit heavy on the top of the head too though.
