Considering a move to Atlanta

I've never been to Atlanta so I have no idea what it's like. My friend is a master club fitter and player specialist for TaylorMade golf in Atlanta GA. He just bought a house and needs a roomie plus he can get me a job working for TaylorMade. This means I would get free golf equipment and free golf. I checked and the closest ski resorts are at least 2-3 hours away and are in North Carolina. Has anybody been skiing in NC? Also considering Eugene Oregon and Taos NM.

Eugene > Taos > Atlanta IMO, although you sound as though you could have a pretty appealing situation in Atlanta. Free golf and working for TM? That sounds bomb, never been skiing in NC tho, can't imagine that it would be that great... Just my $0.02.

Skiing in NC sucks. If your priority is skiing, it's a mistake. If your priority isn't skiing and you'd rather be golfing, then do it.

My neighbor just (5 days ago) moved right outside of Atlanta, town called Cummings. Neighbors mom got a dirtyyyyy .job in Atlanta. They really love it down there,

Welcome to my hood BOI. Well what you are going to find in Atlanta are a lot of ignorant white and black people that hate each other. Frenchy had mentioned Cumming, well that is a suburb about 45 min north of the ATL. All that cumming has to offer are rednecks and illegal aliens. As for the skiing, closest resort that has a park would be my home mountain of Cataloochee. The park is okay for rails as they might put something creative out but no jumps. If you want to have features raked you will have to become friends with the park crew and ask them. It's about a 3 hour drive from the heart of the ATL but where i live(Alpharetta) its like 2 and a half. Its honestly not that bad of a place to live, so PM me if you have any more questions, I would be glad to answer!

why the fuck are you considering ATL then? haha, seriously though, Eugene is an awesome college town and taos is a dope little ski resort town, either of these would be way better. I'm mostly talking experience on Eugene, I don't know much about Taos, but I have heard its cool.

Eugene you are ~2 hours away from Mt Hood or Mt Bachelor, you have U of O and the Ducks, Ninkasi beer, are close to Portland and Bend, the list goes on...

I'm originally from Atlanta, moved to NC for school and then to Montana for a few years once I graduated. I recently moved back for work and have really enjoyed it. Atlanta is a great place, but it's true, the skiing does suck.

You can get to the north GA "mountains" in about an hour and a half from the city. Make no mistake, they are by no means the rockies, but they're cool and offer a lot of outdoorsy activities. Appalachian Ski Mtn is where I got for weekend ski trips, it's super small, but the park is pretty on point.

If you're into golf, there are a ton of courses in the area, and you can play year round which is nice. And if you like to wakeboard/ski you can be on the lakes for a solid 8 months a year comfortably.

Plus, the south has the highest quality of females of anywhere in the country. This is a fact and has been proven by science. Oh, and people here know how to cook, there's great food everywhere. If you have any questions feel free to give me a shout.

True, Cataloochee is closer but I think it's worth the extra hour and a half to go to App unless you're just doing a day trip. And definitely take ehv's advice and give it a visit before you make any final decisions.

Skiing shouldn't even be a consideration in a decision to move to Atlanta. You are 1500 miles away from anything worthwhile, don't kid yourself.

working for taylormade and playing some real nice courses down there, but maybe only a couple weekends of sub par skiing, idk man, if golf is your priority over skiing id take it.

I went to ATL when i was 12 and some black chicks at the Westin taught me how to grind. And I remember some caddy that was painted with the reese's peanut butter cups logo and had retarded spinners.

Hot women, jobs, and cheap housing is what ATL has going for it. Kinda sucks other than that.

Id do Taos if you are down with a smaller town. If you want a city and to work for TM go to ATL.

Atlanta it is! I'll just load up on shotgun ammo and buy a samurai sword.

I appreciate all the info. I've got a few weeks to decide so I'm gonna drive out to the Dirty South in a few days and check it out. My friend in Oregon is trying really hard to get me to move up there with him but he has a wife and 3 babies so it's not like we would be able to hang out much. I'll keep you guys posted.

It just depends on what's important to you. Specifically, how important is skiing to you?

I went to college in South Carolina and have been to ATL many a time.

Pros: women are hot, nightlife is fun, pro sports, and you'll appreciate any song by TI that much more

Cons: hot as shit in the spring/summer, traffic is awful, pretty ghetto in a lot of the city. And of course... lack of skiing. When you tell people you ski they'll assume you mean water skiing, and traveling hours just to get to Sugar Mtn in NC is a pretty big let down.

All in all I loved living in the south for the above listed "pros", but ultimately moved to Park City because I just couldn't stand only skiing a few days a year. That being said, if you're making decent money then you can fly out of Atlanta direct to just about every big ski destination out west for relatively cheap on Delta... so that's worth something.

All the nice course are near Brookhaven and sandy springs. I live less than five minutes away from capital city club and peachtree golf club which is insanely nice and exclusive. I would try to stay inside the perimeter if I were you and check out the Brookhaven area or buck head or sandy springs. Being outside the perimeter blows if you aren't very close. Oh and we he some of the worst traffic in the country it's horrible every day from 3-7. The smokies are close and offer great hiking but skiing blows in NC which is why I make the trip out to Utah as much as possible. Cataloochee, beach, and sugar are the best places to ski there. Avoid Ober Gatlinberg like the plague there is no snow there and it can take hours to get on the lift to ski 400ft in a sea of gapers that people from the west could only begin to imagine. Other than that atlanta is pretty fun.

All these NS'er from atlanta, well i'll be only new ATLskier. But OP if you decide to move to atlanta then hit me up as i will have a ski buddy that lives in atlanta. Also sandy springs has good golf courses as well country club of the south and Alpharetta athletic club.

I would be living in Sandy Springs. I really wanna live somewhere where I can ski as much as possible which is why i'm even hesitating because the Job opp there is very good. Stressing me out. I've had a membership at a golf course since I was like 10 and I really only play once a week anymore....

I lived in Atlanta for a few years and liked it quite alright. Buckhead is a really cool place, skiing isn't too far away, and on the off chance you like rock climbing you're in for a treat... Enjoy it man!

As a skier I'd rather love in ATL than Eugene. In Eugene your a pretty long drive from mediocre skiing. In Atlanta your a flight away from skiing in te Wasatch. Leave your ski gear in UT and fly out on Friday, ski sat and sun, fly back Sunday evening.

Summer in western OR would be better than summer in Atlanta. Winter in western OR would suck compared to winter in Atlanta.
