why is your tailpad so far forwards?

Why not just buy a new one?

tail pad is way far forward. if you're trying to ride waves you can just get a cheap foam one with a better shape. or you could just get a new cheap wood one really.

Noticed this in the picture. Its not that far forward, the angle I took the picture distorts it and makes it look too far

no your pad is definitely way too far forward. it should be as far back as possible on the tail cause thats where you're going to control the board from in a wave. or are you doing flatland? even then, you dont need a pad for flatland or sliding back and forth on the sand.

It's 3.5 inches from the end of the tail. Anyways, can we focus on the repair??

You could fill the gouge with uv cure resin, like suncure or something. It's got milled fibers in it, usually, so it's thick. You can shape it, then hit i with sun to cure it. Or give it a flash of sun, then shape it, then give it more sun to fully cure it. Use a smooth, clear plastic bag to conform it around curves, hold it over while curing. It's easy. Clean/prepare and lightly sand areas you want the resin to stick to.

i would sand the area, and get a UV curing epoxy to repair it with. Make the repair in the sun, use a plastic bag to smooth out the repair so that it won't be bumpy, then tape it down so that it's sealed off from everything. So you'll have the epoxy over the wood, all of which is under the plastic bag. the bag is there to keep the repair flat and smooth. epoxy won't stick to plastic but it will to wood. once everything is ready, bring it out into the sun and let it sit for awhile. UV cure resin cures quickly once exposed so make sure everything is right the first time around.

thanks guys. only problem is I live in NY and am atleast 100 miles form a surf shop. I do have hardware stores tho. Are you suggesting only putting the epoxy on the exposed section on the bottom? what should I do about the top and rails (peeling paint)?
