How many of you actually buy major ski films?

With Mutiny dropping, I find myself really wanting to see it, but I have such a hard time trying to justify a 20 dollar dvd purchase, when I can see so many banger edits online for free. I am obviously not advocating pirating major movies because I want to support companies like Stept, Level 1, 4bi9 and the like. So my question to you, NS, is how many of you actually go out and buy DVDs like Sunny or Mutiny, or do you just hang out on here and watch the stuff that the community puts out?

You can't just get your fill from online videos IMO. There is a certain niche that full length movies fill and it will never be replaced.

I do find myself not buying DVDs anymore, I prefer itunes because you get HD versions. I think more movie companies need to move away from itunes so they can stop DVD production (bluray only maybe). DVDs are becoming so obsolete and itunes takes a huge cut from the company, if we can get ski movies moving away from itunes, digital downloads could turn into the main source for full length movies.

i remember buying weight from some other online distributer (but still being able to import to itunes, weird), and wondering why stept didn't just have it available for d/l directly from their site... bandwidth/hosting restrictions or something?

When I say DVDs, I mean blu-rays as well. High-def is pretty much assumed at this point because of how easy it is to get your hands on amazing equipment now. My issue is alot of these full-length movies are only an hour or so long, and there are some damn good edits that are that long right here on NS (forgive me, I dont have the links right now, its been awhile sense I have seen them).

Personally I dislike digital downloads unless the price is really good. If I am going to pay 10-15 dollars for a digital only download, I would much prefer to pay 5 more for a blu-ray than 10 on a digital only download. I know that the content is the same, but I always feel a little ripped off when buying a movie as digital only. I do understand that there are major production costs associated with printing a disk, but it seems to me like a way to really legitimize your production company.

I do agree with you about the move away from Itunes though, I don't buy anything through them so when a company releases something on just Itunes, they are guaranteeing I will never see it because I simply do not use that storefront for anything.

I was first trying to pirate Level 1/stept productions films when I noticed that there were almost none except the shitty all.I.can.; I realized soon after that all skiers are literally risking their lives (not to mention all the effort that goes into making such a big movie) to get banger shots and I decided to buy every ski movie I was going to watch. Support the crew, end of the story.

I find myself watching the movies I got on itunes allot more often than thr ones I got on dvd so I prefer itunes. And to op I usually buy most the big movies every year, I find myself watching theme enough to justify buying theme.

I def watch them a few times, but If I end up buying them I usually get them after they are a few years old or on sale which kills me because when the whole community is raving about something I want to be a part of it. I just picked up Sunny and After Dark blu rays for 20 bucks total off that sick Level 1 Sale a few days ago so I am super stoked to finally get to see those.

I usually buy the itunes versions of the films I want to see. I feel like it isn't too much to support an awesome company banging out fun to watch stuff. Edits are fine, but its just not the same as a full length film in my opinion (films tend to tell way more about the background and so on)

I generally get to see most from working for iF3 / SBC (and now NS), but I always make sure to buy a handful and support the crews!

Right now I've preordered or plan to buy: Mutiny, McConkey, Into the Mind and Partly Cloudy

I usually end up buying like 10 ski movies throughout the year, mostly on itunes. I also go to the premiere, which can cost more than buying on itunes a lot of times.

I usually don't buy them right when they come out. I pick 2-3 ski movies that I really want to see that have come out within the past year and ask mommy and daddy to buy them for christmas. Gets me that much more excited that the season has finally started.

I dunno, I prefer having an actual hard copy. what if my hard drive craps out? Then I lose all the money invested in movies that no longer exist.

Also, if I buy a digital download, is it illegal to then burn it onto a DVD to lend to a friend?

been buying dvd's for the past ten years. Started out with session 1242 and ready, fire, aim. Don't think i'll stop buying them as it's only once a year movies are released.

I can't tell if I'm rich, or kids on here are just really cheap. Last time I checked, 20 dollars is not a lot of money. I do come from a relatively rich country (Denmark), but still, most people can afford 20 bucks.

I pirate the shit out of everything but ski movies though.

Put it on a thumbdrive and you're good. Plus, if its itunes, its in the apple cloud so you never lose it.


As for burning to DVD, its not "illegal" its like burning music to a CD.

Who needs to eat when you can have stoke for breakfast.
I buy pretty much all the films from a year cos i will watch them pver and over again and dont get the dvd as I only watch on my laptop or tablet so it makes sense to download. I agree with moving away from itunes so the companies get more o the money I am paying so direct DLs like the 4bi9 film are the way forward.

I usually buy a couple movies on DVD then get the rest on Itunes. If it's a really good movie, I'll get both. I don't have much money but ski movies are a pretty big deal to me.

I mean I am not super poor, but Im not exactly doing all that well either. I dont buy shit for any movies at this point, and 20 is a good bit for a ski movie, when you add up buying 4 or 5 your up to a decent chunk of change that I could have spent towards other gear like a new pair of skis or something.

I spent about 100quid on ski movies over the last two seasons and have watched them all about 100times each. Wish i spend as much time skiing as i do watching it.

loads of free movies to watch too, the trailers this year have been awesome

iTunes for sure. I watch all the ski movies I have on iTunes a lot. But certain Blu ray discs i have, like All.I.Can and Attack of La Nina I watch a lot as well.

I've started to realize how important it is to support your favorite ski companies and actually buy their films, products, etc... Companies like 4bi9 are barely surviving so why not fork out $5 for Keep Looking?

I'm definitely going to be buying a lot more movies, especially from the smaller companies. Not the Red Bull sponsored, big budgeted companies.

These guys deserve it. If we don't buy their products and instead only thrive off of free media, they won't be around much longer. I encourage everyone to support their favorite companies and buy some product.

Id love to support 4bi9, and 5 bux is totally reasonable, but I wont buy from Itunes for various reasons, limiting themselves to only those customers is probably severely limiting their sales. Just it on any DRM free platform and Ill buy a copy right now.

The only web material that is comparable to the level of skiing that there is in ski movies is Real Skiffi, and some of the stuff LTC does. Other than that I don't know how you can not buy ski movies, they are so much better than the identical edits you see on internet

I had eye trip on dvd an loved it, watched it like 3 times until I left it in my dvd player and my mom gave that away so I have been doing itunes because its somewhat cheaper and instant access without loosing your disc or what not. I also like to borrow or "steal" ski movies from my friends which is a great alternative. Overall though I like itunes or just downloading better than dvd format.

You obviously do not enjoy watching the best skiers in the world drop lines you would shit your pants at the top and ask the heli for a ride down. The cinematography and editing in that movie were top notch. I can't wait to see how many copies of Into The Mind Sherpas Cinema sells just because Tom Wallisch is in it.
