I had this dilemma as well. Considered all the options and in the end after senior year I decided to go to a community college and knock out my generals and I did that in the standard 2 years, for shits and giggles I applied for a few jobs that required "a college degree" and I landed a pretty decent one working in a test lab testing our companies product to make sure its safe for use (we build fall protection). Its fun and its a lot of trouble shooting on your own so you work your brain daily. I work 7am to 3:30pm...plenty of time to ski/fish/golf/sit on the couch after work and make a decent living wage. I'm looking to buy a fixer-upper house in the spring and go to work on that with my dad, and hopefully move into it by the fall.
It's really what you are ready for, if I hadn't gotten the job offer I probably would have went and gotten a 4 year degree, but right now I don't need it.
If you aren't ready to put full commitment to getting good grades then college isn't worth it, you are paying big money to better yourself for the future, so if you are going to go, do the best you can while you are there and nothing wrong with partying.
Its about you man, and this is where life starts to get fun and you get to determine your path. It's really fun now that most of my friends are done with college and have their first "adult jobs" and we are all working and meeting up to ski on Friday nights/ Saturdays.
Grab life by the balls and own it.
